An innovative biopolymer manufacturing business based in Birmingham is currently recruiting a Senior Chemical Engineer to join its team on a permanent basis. As their Senior Chemical Engineer you will play a lead role in designing implementing and optimising manufacturing processes and machinery – both industrial compounding lines as well as pilot plant compounders.
Senior Chemical Engineer responsibilities
- Responsible for designing implementing controlling and optimizing manufacturing processes and machinery in both industrial compounding lines as well as pilot plant compounder.
- Support the manufacturing new product development processes by keeping up to date with thermoplastic equipment to enable design modifying and testing of twin-screw compounding manufacturing methods and related equipment.
- Oversee R&D trials on the full scale and pilot compounding lines.
- Providing technical support for commercial production and production analysis including working closely with the Engineering & Maintenance Manager and their team to ensure reliable performance of the production lines.
- Act as a technical authority in Chemical Engineering to support optimisation of compounder lines as well as those relevant projects and programmes to deliver correct scale up and production consistency.
- Undertake engineering design of screw configuration.
Senior Chemical Engineer requirements
- Degree level qualification in Chemical Engineering or closely related.
- Significant experience working with R&D/product development completing process design.
- You must possess relevant experience gained from the plastics/polymer industry.
- Working knowledge of compounding and/or extrusion.
- Process design software experience.
- Excellent communication skills coupled with the ability to motivate and lead.
