Role purpose:
We are seeking a commercially minded senior lawyer who specialises in employment law to cover maternity on a 12 Month FTC. This role is the sole employment lawyer in the business (reporting to the General Counsel). You will need to work with minimal supervision and will be a SME. You will have one direct report to manage who is a Paralegal. The role is a global role and requires you to provide employment law advice across international employment legislation, practice and policy. You will work closely with the HR function, and build and maintain strong relationships across all areas of Travelex in order to provide timely and commercial employment law support.
Key accountabilities:
To provide commercially focused and high quality legal advice in relation to the Travelex group's UK and global employment law matters
To be a trusted legal adviser to the Group's General Counsel, members of the Exec and the senior HR and senior leadership team
To assess, plan and prioritise all employment legal work and, where necessary, instruct external legal counsel to provide value-for-money support
To effectively identify, assess and manage legal risk and to influence stakeholders
To ensure appropriate proactive reporting on, and escalating of, key employment legal matters
To perform general HR advisory work plus advising on systems and processes being used or introduced by the HR team
To review and advise on employment and settlement contracts for colleagues at different levels of the organisation across multiple jurisdictions
To oversee the review of employment/HR policies and ensure that they are up to date
To assist with contentious aspects of employment law and oversee employment litigation
To support the business with the employment aspects of transactions (acquisitions, disposals, JVs) as well as the employment implications of partner and supplier contracts
To oversee the growth and maintenance of a high quality employment law precedent bank to enable standard documents to be prepared, adapted and produced rapidly
To keep abreast of and provide guidance on legislative developments with employment law implications and their potential impact on the business units and operations
To review and advise on matters and documentation related to contingent workers and consultants/contractors/ NEDs
To have oversight of UK immigration law matters and global mobility (in depth knowledge of immigration law not essential)
To maintain oversight of spend on external employment legal advice
Experience and personal qualities:
Qualified UK lawyer, 6-10 years PQE
From a major law firm or current in-house role – previous in-house or client secondment experience desirable
Solid experience in all aspects of employment law (including in relation to corporate matters such as TUPE and supplier contracts etc)
Experience of advising international companies on employment and associated legislation, contractual arrangements, policies and procedures
Commercial and business focused approach essential, with experience in negotiating commercial as well as legal points
Collaborative and accessible approach, able to build mutually beneficial relationships, and good communication, influencing and presentation skills
A self-motivated, proactive hard worker with the ability to work well under pressure, meet deadlines and manage a varied and high volume workload
