As a Senior Finance Technician within our Technical Team you'll be undertaking key financial processes within deadlines and to a very high standard.
About the role:
The team provides a corporate and technical finance and accounting service to the Council, encompassing both management and financial accounting functions, as well as VAT and treasury management services. The accounting functions cover both revenue and capital finance and include the major processes of closure of accounts, systems administration and statutory returns.
The role will mainly be to support the VAT officer in the provision of a full VAT accounting and advice service to the Council, including preparation of VAT returns, monitoring the County Council’s partial exemption position, and providing VAT advice and training. In addition, the successful candidate will undertake revenue budget monitoring tasks, provide information for Executive reports and the annual budget book, and contribute to the preparation of the annual Statement of Accounts.
About you:
The ideal candidate should have a professional and organised approach to work with good knowledge of financial principles and practices, a good understanding of VAT principles and accounting, have suitable experience of working within public sector finance, possess excellent communication and ICT skills (particularly Excel), and hold a relevant accounting qualification (minimum of AAT or equivalent).
You will be joining an experienced and dedicated team with multiple priorities and a need to work flexibly and be adaptable to change. The role will involve undertaking key financial processes within deadlines and to a high quality standard. You will also have technical accounting knowledge in order to carry out closure of accounts tasks and to support other team members in such tasks.
