London Fire Brigade are looking for an experienced, accredited, Senior Health and Safety Adviser to join them on a permanent basis.
Purpose of the Senior Health and Safety Adviser:
To contribute to the vision of ensuring the health and safety of all employees and those affected by their work. This role is integral in supporting the development of health and safety policies, procedures, and standards, as well as monitoring their implementation and maintenance.
Day to day of the role:- Assist in the development and implementation of health and safety policies, procedures, and standards.
- Provide professional advice on all aspects of health and safety legislation, including legislative proposals and codes of practice.
- Support the implementation of risk assessment policies and procedures and provide guidance on the management of risk.
- Advise on health and safety aspects of building works. and facilities management contracts, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
- Investigate accidents and near-miss events, and develop action plans for necessary corrective action.
- Monitor compliance with the organisation’s asbestos policy and advise on legislation and best practice.
- Identify health and safety training needs and assist in the development and delivery of training programs.
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Occupational Health & Safety, Occupational Hygiene, Environmental Health, or a Science field, with a NEBOSH Diploma.
- Chartered Membership of IOSH.
- Senior management level experience within the Health & Safety function and managing a team.
- Proven ability to produce and promote workable solutions to complex Health & Safety problems.
- Experience in liaising and influencing a wide range of individuals, including senior managers and external contractors.
- Ability to work unsupervised, respond to changing priorities, and meet strict deadlines.
- Experience in designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining health and safety policies and procedures.
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite.
