Are you interested in shaping national news agendas? Working on high profile cases that make a difference to people and that journalists want to write about? How about taking on our increasing portfolio across tech and major mergers?
We’re looking for a talented and capable senior press officer who already has good experience under their belt to join the CMA’s ambitious Media Relations team on a twelve-month contract (acting as cover for a colleague who is currently on loan to another team).
You will be joining at a busy and exciting time as the CMA’s public profile and role continues to expand. With the CMA taking on responsibility for regulating digital markets, and increased responsibility for large mergers post-Brexit, a strong interest, a good intellect, and a desire to get up to speed quickly in these technical and complex areas is essential.
As Senior Media Relations Officer, you will be responsible for protecting the CMA’s reputation, playing your part on the busy news desk, and leading and delivering a range of exciting projects.
You will have significant experience of managing national, regional and trade media in reactive and crisis situations, spotting reputational difficulties and ensuring the organisation is adequately prepared to respond to them. Proven experience of writing accurate and engaging products that are tailored to suit different audiences – from press releases and reactive lines to op-eds – is essential. You will also be able to get to grips with complex topic areas and information quickly, finding the most relevant points and ‘news angle’ without losing the nuance.
Please note that you will be expected to work to an out of hours rota and handle some early morning ‘market sensitive’ announcements.
The CMA prides itself on being a great place to work and strives to ensure that staff have the opportunity to grow and expand their skills portfolio. As well as being a hugely rewarding, diverse and stimulating place to work, you will have an opportunity to work for the public good whilst stretching and developing yourself in doing so.
We offer generous benefits, including an excellent pension scheme, 25 days leave and generous maternity/paternity leave provision, plus interest-free season ticket loans, a cycle to work scheme and consideration of flexible working.
Please note that all members of the press team are currently based in London.

Closing date: 11:55pm, Monday 26th February 2024.
