Senior Project Manager

The Opportunity


In this exciting role, you will be working to ensure the successful delivery of engineering, procurement, manufacturing, construction, and commissioning activities throughout the contract's life cycle. As a key player in our Commissioning Programme, you will provide leadership to projects spanning both Commissioning and Pre-operations.


You will lead with precision, ensuring that every aspect of planning and delivery aligns perfectly with safety, quality, time, and cost parameters. Reporting directly to our Senior Commissioning Manager (PMO) and the Head of Commissioning Operations, you will take charge of directing and inspiring all activities associated with the full life cycle delivery of major contracts.

What you will be doing…


In this dynamic role, you will be tasked with shaping the work scope for your contract or project package, carefully defining interfaces with other elements of the program. You will be securing the necessary resources to bring your vision to life, ensuring the skill, quality, and prompt identification of any personnel issues. Get ready to craft and execute powerful execution strategies and plans, perfectly aligned with our overarching Programme Execution Plan (PEP), setting the stage for a seamless and successful program delivery journey. Other roles and responsibilities also include:


  • Proactively anticipate, manage, and resolve issues within the contract or package, identifying risks and facilitating their resolution. Keep a keen eye on the programme budget, updating as needed, and escalate any significant issues as they arise.
  • Take charge of developing and maintaining level 4 schedules for your contract or package of work, ensuring alignment with overall project schedules and milestones. Flag any discrepancies to the Project Controls Director promptly.
  • Ensure timely delivery of the List of Deliverables (LOD) related to the scope of work.
  • Implement the principles of Earned Value Management (EVM) and provide monthly progress reports to senior management.
  • Review and assess Contractor’s applications for payment, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Embrace the principles of Continuous Improvement, driving ongoing enhancements to project processes and outcomes.
  • Facilitate the capture and dissemination of lessons learned and knowledge gained as standard practice.
  • Collaborate with other programmes to gain a holistic view of project progress and leverage best practices.
  • Ensure contractual requirements for your contract or package are met and upheld.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong working relationships with all members of the project team, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment.


Who you are…


As our next Senior Project Manager, you will bring a proven track record of delivering projects within technically complex and dynamic environments, ensuring safety, security, and environmental responsibility are maintained. Your expertise ideally extends to the Nuclear Energy sector or a similarly regulated environment, where your management skills shine bright. From project management to financial management, change management, and facilitation, you excel in every aspect. Plus, your proficiency in estimating, scheduling, programming, and risk tools makes you an invaluable asset to this team!


Other requirements also include:


  • Demonstrate solid understanding of managing contractors, consultants, and other advisors through large and complex construction projects in regulated environments, with expertise in NEC and FIDIC contracts.
  • Be confident in your presentation, influencing, and facilitation skills, coupled with outstanding communication and organisational abilities to allow you to build relationships and foster effective networks.
  • Hold a degree and chartered status in engineering, construction, physics, or a related field, demonstrating your commitment to excellence in your profession.
  • Possess a strong understanding of CDM Regulations, ensuring compliance and safety throughout project execution.
  • Have knowledge and/or practitioner expertise in Project Management, applying either the APM body of knowledge or OGC's Prince 2 framework to drive project success.
  • Showcase your ability to manage projects through the entire lifecycle, from concept to handover, with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to achieving milestones.
  • Understand the unique requirements of nuclear quality assurance and control, ensuring that projects meet the highest standards of safety and compliance.
