The Research Finance team at The University of Manchester sits within the Directorate of Finance and is responsible for managing annual research income of around £257 million from a portfolio of 2,500 live research grants and contracts across the three University Faculties.
Supervising a small team, you will work as part of a group of colleagues to assist the delivery of services that maximise our ability to financially plan, manage and monitor research grants and contracts and deliver a high-quality research support service to academic and other service users. You will report to the Research Finance Manager and will support a culture of excellent service provision and support colleagues with continuous improvement working flexibly across organisational boundaries.
As a Senior Research Finance Officer, you will be a self-starter who is able to form strong working relationships with other members of the RS team, other Finance colleagues and with academics. Your key deliverables include:
- Ensuring accurate financial reporting and performance analysis of your area of responsibility
- Line Management of a Team of Research Finance Officers and Research Finance Assistants including training, development and support.
- Accountability for regular, accurate and appropriate processing activities in your area of responsibility
- Provide excellent Business Partnering Services to Academics including regular and high quality Project reviews, ensuring activities are compliant with Funder Terms & Conditions
- Ensuring all Final Claims are submitted in line with the Funders Terms and Conditions and in a timely manner.
- Identifying and resolving financial risk including under or overspends versus the awarded research budget
- To support Senior Management in the financial planning, budgeting, forecasting and reporting processes for research activity in the Faculty.
