Join City Services at Southampton City Council as a Safety, Health and compliance manager, where your play pivotal role in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our dedicated staff. We are seeking a dynamic individual who is positive about fostering a positive safety culture band ensuring the implementation of robust safety measures across our environmental services, including waste collection, fleet workshops, parks, street cleansing ,tree officers and tree surgeons ,landscaping and pest control to name a few.
Key Responsibilities:
- Keep staff safe through the development and implementation of comprehensive safety protocols and procedures.
- Cultivate a positive safety culture ,encouraging staff to prioritise safety and look out for one another.
- Ensure all staff have access to and understand risk assessments and method statements to perform their duties safely.
- Develop and execute a 5 year safety strategy in alignment with organisational and legislative goals and objectives.
- Oversee the implementation of safety strategy ,monitoring progress and adjusting as necessary to achieve optimal results
- Minimise accidents and incidents by proactively identifying and addressing hazards and risks.
- Encourage and facilitate the reporting of near misses and hazards to continually improve safety practices.
Qualifications and skills:
- Bachelors degree in occupational health and safety, Environmental management ,or related field
- Proven experience in safety management ,ideally within a municipal or environmental services setting
- Strong understanding of health and safety regulations and best practices in the relevant field of operations
- Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills ,with the ability to encourage and influence stakeholders at all levels
- Demonstrated leadership abilities ,with a track record of successfully implementing safety initiatives and driving results
- Professional certifications such as NEBOSH OR IOSH are desirable.
- Category B licence
