About the role
The Ascension Island Government is currently looking for a passionate, suitably qualified and experienced Social Worker to work within the island community.
You’ll work within the community to provide a proactive and comprehensive Social Work service, operating in line with the statutory duties and responsibilities of the Ascension Island Government, and with strict adherence to agreed policies, procedures and best practice. The work includes direct case work with children, families and adults, as well as providing advice and expertise to the Ascension Island Safeguarding Children’s Board.
What you’ll do
As the only Social Worker on Ascension Island, the post holder will be required to provide support to people from varied cultural and social backgrounds. The role requires the Social Worker to work independently, using their own initiative, leading on Safeguarding issues and be the statutory welfare provision for the island in conjunction with partner agencies.
The post holder will be a key member of the Ascension Island Safeguarding Children Board and take the lead on relevant policy development. The Social Work role will be guided by the changing needs of the population of Ascension. Taking a community-led approach; the post holder will continue to develop the Social Work role to meet the distinct needs of the community on Ascension.
What you’ll bring
To be successful, you will hold an approved Social Work England (SWE) qualification and be registered with the SWE (or equivalent).
You should have experience of developing relationships with individuals within diverse communities.
You will be passionate about trauma-informed, community and relationship-based approaches, be accessible and present whilst also being able to manage and maintain professional boundaries in a small island community.
