Job Description Summary
Lab Engineering Lead is a transformational leader who works collaboratively with other Lab roles to create empowered teams that are motivated to take on business problems and realise value to customers through excellence in execution. The role will work alongside the Lab PO in shaping the vision for the Lab, and as a result centre on setting the strategic direction for the engineering teams to demonstrate thought leadership on contemporary technical delivery, across the entire lifecycle, from idea to realisation of value.

Engineering Lead (Software Centre of Excellence)
SALARY: £121,023 - £156,618
LOCATION(S): Bristol, Manchester, Halifax, Leeds, Edinburgh
HOURS: Full-time
WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our hub office locations.

What will I do?
The Engineering Lead is a transformational leader who works collaboratively with platforms to ensure best practice for Engineering to deliver business outcomes and realise value to customers through excellence in execution. As a highly experienced member of our wider Engineering leadership team we expect the Engineering Lead to demonstrate and apply exemplary software engineering practices and skills as well as mentor and nurture the talent at all levels of the software engineering community.
What you’ll be involved in....
  • Ensure that the capabilities in the team are what is needed for the future; articulate the skill-based vision of the future and the steps to get there.
  • Build strong, trusting and deep relationships to enable close and productive work with partners across the Group.
  • Role model Group Values and expectations with and through the team, working to develop a strong leadership team and holding them to account for clear individual objectives.
  • Empower the teams to ensure that the right problems get focus and the outcomes drive great benefits.
  • Ensure that safety and resilience of product is a priority through the backlogs and in the work.
  • Ensure that all decisions are made in alignment with frameworks and within Group standards as articulated in the approved change delivery methods and the Group Security and Technology policies. Consider end to end economics and build compelling cases for both run and change capabilities.
  • Provide exceptional leadership to the team, coaching and developing through change with a focus on empowerment.
  • Demonstrate and role model financial accountability and efficient management of all Group resources.

Essential skills and experience:
  • A transformational leader and an advocate for digital transformation
  • A strong ability to work and craft code, with applied experience in our application code. Including application code productions and testing for a wide variety of solutions with significant experience in agile development methods & tooling e.g. Scrum, Kanban, Jira & Confluence, and experience of leading & working in Agile
  • A robust and excellent knowledge & understanding of multiple engineering & software design solutions technology, to be agnostic and adaptive in your approach. Including but not limited to DevOps, data, automation, hosting choices.
  • Experienced in providing software engineering oversight, technical and people leadership across multiple large teams, including demonstrable experience of running technical service and security.
  • Extensive experience and technical modern engineering knowledge from implementation of a broad range of platforms.
  • Well versed in technical architecture principles and deep experience of systems architecture and integration (including with third parties) and skilled at ensuring we Evergreen modern technology
  • Demonstrable evidence of building strong, trusting relationships to enable close and productive work within LBG and key suppliers. Including challenging robustly and positively, whilst enabling creative solutioning ensuring core governance requirements are met and considering and championing opportunities to work differently in support of Group strategic aim.

Whilst you might not have all of them, we're looking for people with...
• A very strong software development background, along with detailed senior knowledge of modern software development toolsets including DevOps Continuous Integration, and Delivery
• Significant experience with agile development methods & tooling e.g. Scrum, Kanban, Jira & Confluence, and experience of leading & working in Agile
• Able to influence key partners at an executive level within a divisional operating model. Credible performer in senior executive forums
• Detailed understanding of the wider business, economic and market environment in which the firm operates
• Understand the tools and insights within other industries to effectively implement the best strategic solution for Group Transformation
• Show the ability to effectively and inspirationally lead and develop colleagues, leading by example and coaching
• Foster and Maintain a vibrant active Software Community across Group Transformation.
• Deliver real outcomes across transformation and ensure visibility across our UK Hubs and also Offshore
