The Music Department consists of three teaching staff and nine peripatetic staff. The music department is proud to offer a rich range of extra-curricular activities for students including; Orchestra, String group, Jazz band and many more! We run three concerts a year; Autumn, Spring and Summer performances. We also put on a whole school production every two years, with this year, in December, being our whole school production of ‘Beauty and the Beast’.
At KS3 we aim to develop student’s musicianship and understanding of Music through a wide variety of topics and genres, exploring both context and features of the music. Students learn to play the keyboards to strengthen their understanding of the musical topics studied. KS4 music is an optional subject open to any student based on their interest and commitment. The Kingsmead music department offers both Music and Music Technology at A-Level, offering students every opportunity to further their musical careers and interests.

‘Practise to Perfect’
Kingsmead is a large, mixed, oversubscribed school – easily accessible from both central London and surrounds – with loyal staff, an established standing in the community and a very strong track record. We are consistently above average in Progress 8 and A Level value added, with high Ebacc entry and a wide range of options at KS4 and KS5. Those outcomes are built on a calm, purposeful and collaborative atmosphere.
Despite the school’s size and standing, the Headteacher was appointed relatively young after experience of leading for a high-performing academy chain and in one of the most successful London boroughs. He has restarted the school culture and approach over the last few years and is determined to push it forward from being in the top 20% nationally to being somewhere where things are achieved others do not think possible.
