About the role

Swindon Children’s Services are currently looking for a Team Manager to lead our dynamic, Child and Adult Emergency Duty Service (EDS).

This service is looking to recruit an innovative, highly motivated and experienced individual. EDS is the Local Authority’s out of hours first point of contact, for anyone who is concerned about the immediate safety and protection of a child, young person or vulnerable adult. We ensure an effective, response out of office hours (minimum of 129 hours a week) to our service users.

As the Team Manager of Swindon Emergency Duty Service, you will maintain and develop this effective service. Your management responsibility will be to line manage a team of Senior Social Work Practitioners and casual staff.  You will provide the direct management of the team, as well as participate on the rota (average of 25% of your working hours).

The team undertake a range of assessments and interventions specifically linked to priority child in need, child protection, looked after children and vulnerable adult issues - the core work being child protection and urgent Mental Health Act assessments. This will include Strategy Discussions and Child / Adult investigations and urgent Mental Health Act assessments.

You will take forward the implementation of new initiatives, working closely with all of our partner agencies ensuring the provision of an effective comprehensive service which, at all times, aims to safeguard the children, young people and vulnerable adults of Swindon.

Essential requirements include a recognised professional Social Work qualification, management experience or comprehensive experience with another Emergency Duty Service. You will need to be an Approved Mental Health Professional with substantial post-qualification child protection experience, and hold current Social Work England registration.

An ability to travel throughout the Borough, plus an enhanced DBS disclosure will be required.
