This opportunity at a well-established telecommunications and broadband company, specialising to Military, Government, Transport, and Utility markets across the UK, presents a chance for you to join a robust team with diverse specialisations. Following significant investment, my client seeks a motivated Technical Support Engineer to contribute to the team's strength, with potential career growth opportunities.
The successful candidate must have a basic understanding of telecom technologies such as PDH, SDH, ethernet/IP, MPLS, GPON, DWDM, Cellular and Wireless networks. Also exposure to a variety of SNMP network system running Linux, Solaris and Window servers. A specialist knowledge in PDH or SDH would be advantageous.
As my client provides 24/7 support to it's customers, an ability to participate in a "week on - 3 weeks off" out of hours rota is essential. This will take the form of phone and email support and the occasional site visit if and when require.
Along with sound telecom knowledge, the Ideal candidates will be positive, hard-working individual, committed to learning and staying abreast of evolving communication technologies. For those at the upper end of the salary range, a history of personnel or project management experience is essential.
Key Skills:
- Proficiency with various test equipment, including oscilloscopes, optical power meters & light sources, frequency counters, BERT's, cellular scanners, and multimeters.
- Strong customer-facing skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively or independently, taking initiative as needed.
- Aptitude for training team members and customers.
- Experience in fault-finding methodologies.
- Demonstrable work ethic and pride in one's work.
- Capability to manage fault tickets from initiation to resolution.
- Be able to assist with phone support, email and occasional site visit.
- Able to conduct testing and produce full comprehensive test documentation/reports. Ability to administer and run small turn key projects.
- Experience with remote management platforms.
- Comfortable engaging with both customers and suppliers on technical and project related matters.
- Experience using Microsoft applications, such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Available to carry out field activities as when the business requires.
