Job description

1 Year Fixed Term Contract / Secondment Opportunity

Hackney Council manages a portfolio of over 30,000 properties, and it is acknowledged that housing plays an integral part of the services offered. In order to uphold the Council’s primary objective of home improvements through Building Maintenance, we are seeking staff members that can deliver an exceptional high quality, customer focused repairs and maintenance service for our residents.

We are currently seeking two proficient Technical Support Officers (TSO’s) to join our Surveying and Communal Works team. Each TSO will be responsible for the following duties: carrying out property inspections, managing high profile and technically complex cases, investigating the primary causes of damp and mould and recommending effective remedies to address these issues. You will also be responsible for preparing detailed work specifications for contractors, reviewing, approving and or rejecting estimates received from contractors, providing health and safety advice, writing reports, managing complaints related to repair works and undertaking post inspections.

This role is key to ensuring that our repair work consistently meets the time, quality and cost standards as a council.

To apply for this position, you must have prior experience of working within a building environment, together with strong technical knowledge and IT skills. You should ideally have substantial experience in managing repair projects successfully and collaborating with contractors and other stakeholders to design and deliver repair objectives.

This position requires you to have experience of applying schedules of rates and assessing estimates. The successful candidates will possess a building related qualification to HND/HNC level and /or be ‘qualified by experience’ in a similar role. To support career progression, we will support TSOs to study for a RICS accredited degree in building surveying in order to enhance professional advancement.
