Job description

1. To act as a point of contact for patients, relatives and carers ensuring they feel welcome in the department, kept aware of information, offered reassurance and generally dealt with in a helpful, friendly and courteous manner. 2. To help in the maintenance of the privacy, dignity and confidentiality of the patient at all times.
3. If a patient presenting in reception or waiting in the waiting room with a minor injury appears to be in pain liaise with the practitioner to see if a stat dose of pain relief can be given while they wait. 4. Provide support and assistance to patients booking in using the e-triage system.
5. Carry out patient care and monitoring under the direction and supervision of a trained nurse or paramedic practitioner. 6. Organising and preparing the clinical rooms ensuring they are suitably stocked and cleaned.
7. To assist with general duties such as taking and relaying telephone messages, photocopying and scanning documents and emailing. 8. To assist in keeping the unit tidy i.e picking up the litter and mopping up small amounts of spillages in line with policies.
9. To maintain an awareness in relation to security in the department and to report potential problems to appropriate staff. 10. To ensure effective risk management at team level by accident/incident reporting, and complying with health and safety policies.
11. To be willing to undertake any other duties as appropriate. To Provide General Help and Assistance Including: 1. To maintain a visible presence in the Unit and be ready to assist with or respond to any request.
2. Transfer patients and/or relatives or carers by means of wheelchair to other areas of the hospital e.g xray. 3. To move items of equipment, including stores as requested.
4. Undertaking ordering to keep the unit prepared and well stocked at times. (both clinical rooms and storage areas) 5. To ensure equipment such as trolleys, plinths and crutches are kept clean and maintained in good and safe working order.
6. Check all gas cylinders and change them when necessary. 7. Ensure there are sufficient patient information and advice leaflets.
To Assist with Clinical Aspects of Patient Care: 1. Direct patient care duties will be carried out under the direction and supervision of Advanced Clinical Practitioner, qualified nurse or paramedic practitioner. 2. Offer reassurance to and remain with vulnerable patients whilst they are in the unit 3.
Assist nurses and paramedics in preparing patients for clinical assessment or treatment by for example removing dressings and cleaning wounds. 4. Administer treatments as directed by nursing/paramedic staff e.g assisting with the application of dressings, having an awareness of oxygen therapy, application of plaster casts and splints. 5.
To assist in initial assessment of patients by taking recordings of their vital signs as directed by practitioner. Including neuro observations, blood glucose monitoring and urinalysis. 6. Recognise changes in patients observations and report accordingly.
7. Assist patients with toileting needs if required e.g. Escort to the toilet. 8.
Assist trained staff with transferring patients e.g. from trolley to ambulance stretcher 9. Make verbal reports to practitioners concerning their patients wellbeing and behaviours. 10.
Undertake further training to extend skills as required 11. To act as a chaperone. 12. To assist in the emergency management of patients e.g.
performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation. 13. Support other clinics within the wider integrated care system as required. Computer administration: 1.
To accurately input patient data 2. To be confident after training on various local and national health computer systems. 3. Maintain accurate and complete patient records.
4. To take part, and assist in the registration of patients in the day to day running of the department. 5. To read and communicate via email.
Key Responsibilities: Checking treatment room cupboards daily and setting up the rooms for the day. Imputing patient information and entering results of blood pressure, urinalysis etc onto the computer Keep all cupboards and trolleys well stocked, clean and tidy. Ordering equipment and unpacking deliveries Answering the phone and dealing with queries, liaise with nursing and paramedic staff. Working alongside clinicians in the provision of patient care Undertake and record a range of tasks which may include: Height and weight Urinalysis Blood pressure, temperature and pulse Recording ECGs Assisting with dressing clinic/ simple dressings Recognise changes in patients observations, which must be reported and acted on.
Assist clinicians in emergency management of patients Enable patients to access appropriate in the team Act as a chaperone Provide relevant health promotion literature for patients.
