Role & Responsibilities
The tech innovation team is a lean cross functional team responsible for early engagement with the business to help shape new ideas / products / technologies and to test feasibility and identify technical scope for proposed initiatives. The team works on discovery phase to business case, scoping and outlining requirements, then handing off to existing or new teams to take forward.
The design team utilise design thinking best practices to ensure solutions are considered and that concepts, PoCs and products are as effective as possible.
As a UX apprentice, you will report to the Head of UX & Design, your role will involve learning and developing an understanding of UX methodologies by working closely with team members to learn and understand the key processes and responsibilities across UX & UI design and user research to enable you to grow into a multidisciplinary UX designer.
You’ll have a passion for Design and be curious as to why digital products are designed in the way they are. You’ll be hands-on and willing to work in a fast paced, ever-moving environment and you’ll keep up-to-date with the latest trends and developments in technology and become acutely aware of new practices in UX, design and innovation.
Responsibilities:
Actively learn and develop core skillsets within UX Design and Research
Assist in generating creative proposals and innovative solutions to design challenges.
Develop a deep understanding of News UK's digital products.
Familiarise yourself with our customer base, including current and potential users, demographics, and user personas.
Apply user-centered design principles to address complex design problems and propose effective design concepts.
A curious approach to problem solving
Actively participate in ideation sessions to ensure user needs are met.
Engage in workshops and design sprints to enhance collaborative skills.
Stay updated on the latest trends and developments in UX and design.
Skills to develop:
Design and UX methodologies
Ideation skills and ability to conceptualise ideas.
Quantitative and qualitative research methodologies.
Effective communication and presentation skills.
Show a willingness to learn new skills, set goals and develop as a UX designer.
Familiarity with news and publishing, or a keen interest, would be advantageous.
