In Shaw Trust Taunton, volunteers help us raise vital funds to support people in communities across the UK.
As a Volunteer Retail Supervisor, you will support your local shop in raising vital funds to help people across the UK to live independently. You will support the manager to keep the shop open and running smoothly. By helping support your fellow volunteers, you can make a real difference to the team as well as our customers and supporters.
You will use and develop leadership skills to help our shop give volunteers and supporters a great experience. We will give you all the training and support you need – no experience necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and inspire your fellow volunteers and give them the support, training, and guidance they might need.
- Collaborate with the shop manager to give great service to our customers and donors.
- Make the most of our donations by encouraging donors to sign up to Gift Aid.
- Help with stocktakes, admin, cashing up, and other key tasks as required to ensure smooth running.
- Keep the shop safe and secure including opening and locking up when required.
- Deputise in the absence of the shop manager.
Your Skills and Attributes:
Everyone has something to offer and we will give you ongoing training and support. For this role, it would help if you already have some of these skills and attributes or are keen to learn:
- Supervisory skills or management experience.
- Willingness to share your skills and experience with fellow volunteers as required.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.
- A professional manner and the confidence to carry out tasks independently.
- A willingness to learn new skills and engage with the public.
- Adaptable to support a range of people & their needs.
- Basic numeracy skills.
- Have basic IT skills and confidence.
- Responsible & trustworthy.

We normally ask for 4 – 8 hours per week. We can be very flexible around parenting / caring / health / employment / education and any other commitments you have. Some travel and lunch expenses can be covered too.
