As a Volunteer Retail Supervisor, you play a vital role in supporting a local shop for a national charity dedicated to empowering individuals facing disadvantages. By leveraging your skills, you contribute to the success of a community business that generates essential funds for the charity, ensuring it can persist in its mission to help people gain skills, find employment, and take control of their futures. Moreover, your involvement provides valuable work experience opportunities for members of the local community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supporting the shop manager to oversee the day-to-day activities involved within the retail operation and improving shop performance.
- Supervising retail assistant volunteers and retail support volunteers on site as required.
- Ensuring a high standard of customer service.
- Signing up customers to Shaw Trust’s loyalty card (part of our Gift Aid scheme).
- Helping to organise and manage stocktaking.
- Cash handling as required.
- Taking responsibility for locking up the shop as required.
- Deputising in the absence of the shop manager.
Essential skills
- Retail and/or charity knowledge.
- Supervisory skills or management experience.
- A strong commitment to helping vulnerable people and supporting our cause.
- Willingness to share your skills and experience with fellow volunteers as required.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Responsible & trustworthy.
- Good organisational skills.
- Ability to work practically and to contribute to the general aims of Shaw Trust.
We normally ask for 4 – 8 hours per week. We can be very flexible around parenting / caring / health / employment / education and any other commitments you have. Some travel and lunch expenses can be covered too.
