Youth Worker Working Instructions:
Pay Rate: £14.71p/h
Hours: Full Time, Temporary
Location: Solihull – Hybrid
Responsibilities of a Youth Worker:
- Responsible for undertaking Early Help and developing effective support plans in liaison with children, young people, their parent/carers, and other professionals.
- To deliver a variety of targeted youth work programmes and approaches with young people, both on a one-to-one basis and in group work settings
- To hold a caseload of young people, and their families and to deliver intensive interventions to achieve outcomes as prescribed in the supporting families framework.
- Develop programmes of individual and group work to meet the needs of young people.
- To develop pathways and forums to allow young people’s views to be heard, acknowledged, and progressed, ensuring the active involvement of young people in wider decision making.
- To demonstrate collaborative working to identify SMART actions plans with families, ensuring evidenced based interventions are implemented to affect change where young people achieve positive outcomes.
- To understand and assess risk in relation to safeguarding and escalate any concerns as appropriate using threshold documents.
- To support children, young people, and parents by providing practical advice and assistance enabling them to engage with other services
- Undertake direct work with children, young people, and parents on a 1-1 and group basis promoting the welfare of children in need of support, care and or protection.
- To complete relevant case notes and work required to meet recording expectations of any direct work undertaken as part of a child’s plan and to attend meetings for children in need of support, care, or protections, contributing verbal and written reports on their work.
- To maintain client computer-based records in accordance with Directorate Recording Policy.
- To actively challenge discriminatory behaviour
- To report immediately any signs of neglect, injury or other causes of concerns for a children welfare or safety to the Assistant Team Manager or Team Manager.
- To actively participate in team meetings and the delivery of the Tea Service Plan.
- To observe the Health, Safety and Welfare Policy Statement in relation to self and others.

- Drivers License and access to own vehicle.
- Educated to degree level OR the ability to demonstrate through extended experience and training the knowledge required to carry out the full range of duties
- Knowledge of Children’s Services, the Early Help process and the role of lead professional.
- Experience of developing and delivering a variety of different youth work approaches in different settings.
- An understanding of the additional vulnerabilities and complex needs of children and young people in need
- Knowledge and understanding of child development and the needs of children.
- Experience of using Case Management Systems and Microsoft Office Packages, including Word and Outlook (or equivalent).
- Ability to identify and seek support when necessary.
- Ability to write accurate plans for children within Early Help Support.
- Knowledge of how to address safeguarding issues for children and their families.
- Experience of writing clear and concise observations and reports on work undertaken.
- Knowledge of local services that are available and be able to advise practitioners of them, so they are able to signpost and support families as well as young people towards them.
