About the role
The position will sit within our Measurement Science R&D team, based at our head office premises in Wollaston, Northamptonshire. You will be providing analytical services to support the businesses, Scott Bader Group sites and other internal departments, in addition to carrying out materials testing work, where necessary and appropriate. On occasion it will also be required for you to deputise for the Senior Analytical Chemist, where necessary and appropriate.

Key responsibilities
Manage and execute agreed Analytical work for the Global businesses and their customers. To provide support for the Operations teams, as well as key strategic projects. To work with the Senior Analytical Chemist to ensure that all analytical equipment is maintained, calibrated and serviced, as appropriate.
Select the most appropriate technique for the information being requested and then to be able fully interpret the data from this method, if required. To develop new test methods to analyse new types of samples or materials, when appropriate.
Plan, organise and carry out mechanical property test work within the materials testing section of MSG for internal R&D projects and agreed work for customers
Carry out all agreed work in a timely and flexible manner, according to priorities of the Group and also of the overall R&D project portfolio.
Ensure good communication with all “customers” of the Group, both internal and external. This includes use of the job request systems and appropriate reporting in line with the R&D ISO9000 manual and also to the standards expected from an external test house.
Liaise with suppliers, trade associations, universities and our external testing partners, to maintain knowledge and understanding in the field of Analytical Science. To keep the rest of the company abreast of such technology, to ensure that we can maximise our offer in this field and to represent the company technically.
Proactively support the Senior Analytical Chemist in the running and development of the team. To deputise for the Senior Analytical Chemist, where necessary and appropriate. To perform any other tasks reasonably requested by the Senior Analytical Chemist to help in the running of the team.

About you
The successful candidate will ideally have significant experience of Analytical Chemistry laboratory work, inclusive of interpreting chemistry using one of the following techniques: IRS, GC, GC-MS, GPC, HPLC, NMR, DSC, ICP, LC-MS.
Quality conscious and methodical in approach, you will be comfortable managing deadlines and working to tight timescales. Enjoys working as part of a ream and enjoys working under own initiative.

Salary & benefits: The salary for the position will be in the range of £30,000 - £35,000 dependent upon experience. In addition to your salary, you will also be included into our company bonus scheme (Group Staff Bonus & Profit Performance Bonus). Pension: We offer a generous contribution to your pension and dependant on your monthly commitment, we will contribute up to a maximum of 2x your contribution up to a maximum of 10%.
