Job description

We require an enthusiastic and hands-on individual to join our small Accounts team as an Assistant Accountant, reporting into the Finance Director, and working alongside the Purchase Ledger Clerk and assisting the Customer Services and Supply Chain departments.

This is a fully office-based position based from our office in Redbourn, five days a week. Unfortunately, hybrid or home working cannot be accommodated due to the specifics of the role. It is expected that the position will develop in time and further tasks may be assigned.

Working Hours: Monday to Friday 9AM to 5PM with 1 hour for lunch

Main tasks include but they are not limited to:

  • Bank reconciliations for 8 bank accounts
  • Credit control and on-going maintenance of the sales ledger
  • Answer all customer queries over the phone and by email including taking payments
  • Assist the Customer Services department with their Finance-related queries
  • Post all the cash receipts, assign cash received to IDF, assign sales invoices and credit notes to IDF and IDF reconciliation
  • Update the Cash Flow spreadsheets
  • Assist with the month end - fixed assets, accruals, prepayments, balance sheet reconciliation
  • Assist with the preparation of the monthly management accounts
  • Calculation of the royalties, bonuses and sales commissions
  • Weekly upload of the sales invoices and SagePay transactions into Xero. Weekly reconciliations of these transactions
  • ONS surveys
  • Raise recharge invoices, inter-company reconciliation
  • Prepare the Barclaycard journal
  • VAT returns in the UK and Republic of Ireland
  • Assist with the payroll with a view of taking over the payroll preparation in the near future

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Ideally minimum of 2 years hands on experience within Accounting
  • Part AAT qualified
  • High level of computer literacy - needs to be a proficient user of financial systems
  • Good Excel skills to include VLookups and Pivot Tables
  • Excellent written, verbal communication and listening skills
  • A critical attention to detail.
  • Driven and ambitious to resolve tasks.
  • A team player who is willing to support on a variety of tasks.
  • Ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Forward-thinking individual with excellent communication skills.
  • Proactive and striving to grow and succeed with the organisation.

Holiday entitlement: 25 days over the course of the year with up to 5 days to be taken during the office closure at Christmas.
