Job description

I have been retained by a well established engineering consultancy in order to assist with their search for an Associate Civil Engineer to join their growing team. The team currently consists of 3 engineers but they have aspirations to grow this to 10 in the future which you will be an integral part of making it an exciting time to join the team with great scope for career progression. . Our client have recently taken on some new, exciting projects with values ranging between 60-70m which you will be getting involved with straight away.


The Associate Civil Engineer will need to have strong technical capability and experience with SuDS, Civils 3D and Microdrainage


Associate Civil Engineer - Management Responsibilities:


  • Provide specialist technical leadership and take ultimate responsibility for the team successes and failures.
  • Leading by example, create a well-motivated team with a strong team spirit with a collaborative behaviour and continually work to build a better and more effective team.
  • The Associate Civil Engineer will take ownership for the mentoring and career development of members of the team including ongoing development of skills and knowledge base in both technical and management streams, providing feedback on lessons learned to continually improve the project deliverables.
  • Providing knowledge of relevant Health, Safety and Welfare regulations and promote a culture of awareness and compliance within the team.
  • The Associate Civil Engineer will manage a portfolio of projects, ensuring delivery to client requirements, programme, budget, invoicing age debt and attainment of approvals including stake holder agreements.
  • Control project resources and monitoring against the budget, project scope and managing fee variations.
  • Prepare detailed appraisals and reports as may be necessary for projects and review / audit reports prepared by other members of the team
  • Leading on bid proposals and submissions


Associate Civil Engineer - Technical Responsibilities:


  • Give due consideration to Environmental issues relating to the proposed works and adapt/ optimise works where possible to enhance.
  • Carry out basic computational checks where required on scheme designs to validate complex computed design.
  • Review key design discipline related critical elements, in a project ensuring they fully comply with design standards and guidance and that the specific requirements are correctly translated on to drawings and details i.e., transfer beams, key elements, key storm events for attenuation storage etc.
  • Ensure technical excellence and accuracy of the project design and deliverables through checking and reviewing at key stages of the design process, and participate in project audits and design checks of projects in other MOU’s.
  • Oversee, check, and approve the work of others
  • Develop and guide the development of engineering design concepts incorporating planning, architectural, engineering, and other required systems on small, medium, large and exceptional projects.
  • Participate in and coordinate the resolution of design and development matters and technical issues.
  • Oversee the preparation of detailed analysis and design, drawings and details together with project specific technical documents at various stages of a project from conception through to tender and the construction stage.
  • Oversee and actively encourage engineering design development as the scheme progresses aspiring to attain the most effective, robust and efficient scheme of works.
