Associate Professor (Education)

Salary: Full time starting salary is normally in the range £56,021 to £64,914 with potential progression once in post to £84,644 Closes: 07/02/2024  Role Summary We are seeking to appoint two highly regarded Associate Professors to join the dynamic and vibrant School of Biomedical Sciences. The School of Biomedical Sciences is situated within the College of Medical and Dental Sciences (MDS) facilitating close interdisciplinary collaborations with colleagues in Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing and the research institutes in MDS. We are home to the highly successful suite of BSc and MSci Biomedical Science programmes delivered in Edgbaston (https://www.birmingham.ac.uk/undergraduate/courses/med/biomedical-science.aspx) and at our University of Birmingham Dubai campus (https://www.birmingham.ac.uk/dubai/study/courses/undergraduate/biomedical-science.aspx). The successful candidates will make a substantial and key contribution to the leadership and delivery of the wide educational portfolio of the School focussing on the delivery of quality teaching and assessment across all years of the BSc and MSci Biomedical Science programmes. The individual candidates will also make key contributions to the portfolio of taught programmes across the college, including the medicine (MBChB), dentistry (BDS) and pharmacy (MPharm) in line with University frameworks. We are looking for candidates with extensive teaching experience at undergraduate level in the Biomedical Sciences that can teach and assess across a range of biomedical disciplines including human physiology. The individual will also be engaged in leading other educational projects and initiatives within the School and there is the potential to be considered for senior leadership roles such as programme leadership and academic year leadership within the school. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing new modules aligned to both their area of expertise and strategic interest of the School. Most pertinently there is scope to develop new programmes of activity including specialist minor programmes, CPD and international partnerships. In relation to the latter we are particularly interested in developing new international partnerships which may represent student exchange programmes through to supporting our existing TNE arrangements and international portfolio of activity. Thus, there may be the requirement for short trips to visit any international partners. We are seeking individuals with significant evidence of scholarship in education. Evidence of where leadership and scholarship has positively transformed other undergraduate programmes would be highly advantageous. Candidates with a sustained record of gaining funding and producing significant outputs in educational research would be considered particularly attractive. Person Specification Applicants should have a strong background in teaching leadership and evidence of positively transforming undergraduate Biomedical and related programmes. This is in addition to delivering a high-quality educational experience to Biomedical Science students and related disciplines.
