Due to the retirement of our current lead, Warwick Medical School are seeking to appoint a non-clinical Associate Professor with experience of medical education and regulation. The post-holder will lead on the ongoing collaboration with Chester Medical School (CMS) in their development and delivery of their MBChB course with the support of Warwick Medical School (WMS).
This is an exciting and varied post, and the successful candidate will need to be able to rapidly build relationships and develop understanding of the curriculum and all associated processes to enable them to act as the key liaison person in the necessary processes to support CMS with programme delivery.
This role presents an opportunity to continue the leadership and management of this important collaboration between WMS and CMS ahead of the anticipated new programme launch in September 2024 and throughout the roll-out of the programme. To effectively fulfil this role the post holder will need to become well-integrated within the existing WMS MBChB delivery team.
For informal enquiries, please contact Jan Cooper (Janet.Cooper.1@warwick.ac.uk.)
We will consider applications for employment on a part-time or other flexible working basis, even where a position is advertised as full-time, unless there are operational or other objective reasons why it is not possible to do so.
Applicants should have:
- Relevant MD, PhD or professional qualification, or accreditation relating to medical education. Significant sector experience may be considered in place of qualification.
- An in-depth understanding of medical education to enable the development of new knowledge and understanding within the field.
- Demonstrable and exceptional organisational and project management skills
- Evidence to support a track record
- Proven ability and major achievements in teaching, demonstrated by consistently high quality and a substantial record in teaching and teaching leadership.
- Engagement in continuous professional development.
- An understanding of equal opportunity issues as they may impact on areas of teaching.
Applicants must also be able to demonstrate exceptional organisation, line management and project management skills in addition to having experience of delivering medical education.
CMS and WMS have been working together on the launch of the MBChB at Chester since 2017. Subject to GMC approval, CMS are aiming to recruit 50 home (UK) students to start in September 2024, increasing eventually to approximately 200 students a year, depending on the allocation of funded places for UK students from the Government. This post is based at WMS but will require the integration of the post-holder into both organisations.
CMS is an exciting new initiative at the University of Chester. The school operates across Cheshire and Shropshire, with primary centres in Chester and the University Centre Shrewsbury. It has well-established BSc programmes in Biomedical Science, Medical Science, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Pharmacology, as well as a suite of postgraduate taught programmes leading to an MSc in subjects including Haematology, Diabetes, Orthopaedics, Biotechnology, and Oncology.
