The Role The research centre for Health & Life Sciences (CHLS) is seeking an ambitious academic for the role of Associate Professor (Bioinformatics). The Associate Professor will be responsible for developing and co-managing various research projects within the research centre. These projects will promote and develop the application of bioinformatics in relation to existing themes within the research centre. Broad experience in the application of next generation sequencing to study genomics, transcriptomics and metagenomics in the context of health-related research would be an advantage. Specific areas of expertise include: Analysis of whole-genome sequence variation data using short- and long-read DNA-seq data; analysis of methylated genome. Analysis of differential gene expression using RNA-seq data; analysis of metagenomic marker data (e.g. 16S ribosomal RNA genes for taxonomic classification of microbial communities). Analysis of metagenomic and metatranscriptomic data (e.g. metagenome shotgun and meta-RNA-seq) for functional characterisation of a range of prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms, including but not limited to human and microbial communities. In all of these areas, the ability to use specialist databases and open-source software and to develop novel data analysis pipelines in required. Qualifications Required A PhD or equivalent in a relevant area (or relevant discipline) in e.g. Biomedical Sciences Our Successful Candidate You will contribute to the centres reputation and ranking and will possess the academic credibility and standing to contribute to the growing discipline of bioinformatics within the Research Centre. You should have strong research skills, a clear vision and will be a forward thinking innovative researcher with experience of conducting research projects within an interdisciplinary research environment.
