The Secretary of State for Education, Bradford Metropolitan District Council, Ofsted and Bradford’s Children’s Services Commissioner all agreed in early 2022 that, despite the efforts of the council and the undoubted commitment of children’s social workers and other children’s services staff, the improvements needed to deliver consistently safe and effective children’s services cannot currently be achieved within the council.

From 1 April 2023, the Trust assumes the legal responsibility for delivering a wide range of services for children and young people on behalf of the council. While Bradford Council is responsible for funding the Trust and has statutory accountability for the effective delivery of services for children and young people, the Trust is responsible for determining how those outcomes are achieved and for the day-to-day running of children’s services. This is an important opportunity to renew our approach to delivering the support that Bradford’s children, young people and families need, by renewing services and creating a new organisation – and we are grasping that opportunity with both hands.

Moving colleagues and services into the Trust enables us to make a fresh start as an integrated team in a new organisation, with a clear purpose and a supportive culture, building on the improvements that have been made over the past 15 months under Children’s Services’ interim leadership. We are bringing the mindset, dynamism and energy of a start-up together with the national expertise and determination of the Trust’s Board and senior leadership and our colleagues’ practical experiences of providing children’s services in Bradford. And we are in charge of our own destiny in our own dedicated organisation.

We will build on our own expertise, best practice and recent improvements, learn from what isn’t working and embrace the opportunity to do things differently. We know that our own colleagues across the Trust have a wealth of expertise and experience, they know the community they serve and they are therefore best placed to bring new ideas for improvements. We will draw on this rich pool of knowledge and ideas as we co-produce our future improvements. We invite you to join this team dedicated to improving outcomes for all our children and young people.

Business Support Services within Bradford Children and Families Trust work closely to support and enable our Executive and Senior leaders, Early Help, Social Work, Performance, Partners, Finance and Corporate Services teams and provide essential support in the effective day to day running of Children’s services.

We are keen to further invest in our workforce and are recruiting x 8 Business Support Officers on both a full time and/or part time basis at various locations across the Bradford District to provide additional support our practice staffing teams in achieving better outcomes for children and families.
