Job description

Job Introduction

At Turning Point, we support people with Learning Disabilities across England.

As a Support Worker, you will make a real difference to residents' lives as you support them to lead fulfilling lives. Passionate about people, you will enjoy the scope and support to enhance your own life and career too, as you gain the experience and training you need to progress with us.

Where will I be working?

You will be supporting individuals at Reevy Road Residential Care Home for individuals with Learning Disabilities and complex health needs. You will work as part of a large staff team covering various shift patterns over 7 days.

Within Reevy Road you will support individuals with a range of needs, including behaviour support, complex health care and personal intimate support. You will also support individuals to be part of the community. This can include regular outings and annual holidays.

We endeavour to create positive family and professional relationships offering a good circle of support. There is a strong focus on supporting individuals' lives in a person centred way which includes promoting choice, demonstrating respect and maintaining health. We tailor our services to enable people to be as independent as possible.

Training and Development

We offer training to all those who want to develop their skills and competencies not just in the care sector but in other areas too.

  • Level 2 and 3 Lead Adult Care Worker
  • Level 3 Operational Team Leader

Please note training will be offered after your probation period ends which is 6 months. Once you begin your training with us you will have your own coach who will support you through your programme.

Shift Patterns

This is a 24 hour service, therefore flexibility is essential. You will be working a range of shifts from 7:00am to 2:30pm and 2:00pm to 9:30pm, waking nights and some weekends.

Please note that working hours may vary

Average potential earnings are £23,949 based on 37 hours.

*Potential average earnings are a culmination of colleagues working additional shifts and where applicable sleep ins**

** sleep ins are not required in all services

Role Responsibility

What will I be doing?

This is a hands-on job in which no two days are the same. Your duties will include:

  • promoting the independence of people we support
  • supporting a full range of daily activities including personal intimate care, support with eating and drinking and involvement in the day to day activities in the home.
  • PEG feeding/flushing
  • Managing epilepsy
  • Suction support
  • Stoma care
  • Cough assist and chest physiotherapy
  • Catheter care
  • Following Health Professionals guidance and protocols around eating and drinking, behaviour and mobility.
  • Supporting individuals to stay safe using positive risk assessments.
  • manual handling
  • supporting people with medication including creams and lotions
  • ensuring record keeping is maintained to the required standard at all times and contributing to service monitoring requirements using a digital recording system.

The Ideal Candidate

What skills and qualities do I need to have?

Whilst knowledge of learning disabilities and complex needs would be beneficial, it isn't essential. What is essential is that you are:

  • passionate, caring and enthusiastic
  • flexible, patient and non-judgemental
  • a great team player with lots of energy
  • able to demonstrate good communication skills
  • able to complete the physical aspects of the role such as manual handling where needed
  • transferable experience of helping people to manage anxiety
