Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Ophthalmology department at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust for a locum ED clinical Fellow on an initial 12 month contract to support the Emergency services.
The post holder will work with the current body of ophthalmology consultants at WEH and CXH in the ophthalmology directorate of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. The department is very busy, seeing over 5000 outpatients a month, and provides a tertiary referral service for West London.
There is a very active research unit: ICORG (Imperial College Ophthalmic Group) which is a part of Imperial College’s department of Cancer and Surgery and the team are actively participating in a number of phase 1 to phase 4 trials including surgical trials. The successful candidate will provide glaucoma clinics, a regular theatre list and will have a regular ED session.
The post holder will work with the consultants and allied professionals in the emergency ophthalmology department which offers a 24 hour emergency service, 7 days a week to the local population and for complex referred emergency work. The WEH emergency ophthalmology team are part of the Imperial Trauma centre team.
The WEH ophthalmic emergency department sees approximately 150 patients per day with inpatient care available for those patients who need admission. The department is staffed with North West London Deanery junior and senior trainees, staff grades, associate specialists and Advanced practitioners.
The post is 10 Clinical sessions across ED/ Cataract Surgery and general clinics
Candidate expected to have experience in Emergency ophthalmic and General Ophthalmology
Experience in Cataract surgery
Medical Qualification MBBS or equivalent
Will carry out research/ audit and teaching

Provide High Quality Care to Patients in Ophthalmology
The post holder must be medically qualified and maintain GMC specialist registration.
To develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties required of the post.
To ensure prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care Programmed Activities.
To ensure patients are involved in decisions about their care and to respond to their views.
Research, Teaching and Training
To provide high quality teaching to medical undergraduates and members of other health care professions as required by the Clinical Director
Participate in the West London weekly post-graduate ophthalmic teaching.
Performance Management
To work with medical, nursing and managerial colleagues to ensure high performance.
to participate in auditing clinical service
Medical Staff Management
To participate in team objective setting as part of the annual job planning cycle.
Governance
To review clinical outcomes in designated area using external benchmarking data where appropriate, to identify and advise variances to the Clinical Director
Participate in clinical audit, incident reporting and analysis and to ensure resulting actions are implemented.
To ensure clinical guidelines and protocols are adhered to by junior medical staff and updated on a regular basis.
To keep fully informed about best practice in the specialty areas and ensure implications for practice changes are discussed with the Clinical Director
To role model good practice for infection control to all members of the multidisciplinary team. Leadership and Team Working
