CMC offers a range of specialist consumer brands including; The English Home, The English Garden, Artists & Illustrators, Classic Boat and Britain. The portfolio offers print and digital subscriptions and reaches a combined monthly audience of 2.5 million in the UK and abroad.
About the role
CMC is looking to recruit a Junior Web Developer. Working within the digital development team, you will be responsible for building resilient, scalable software that support all aspects of the Chelsea Magazine Company digital portfolio from journalists and editors to digital publishing and marketing.
Supporting over 20 journalists, the ecosystem for digital content creation, editing and publishing is key to the success of our business.
The digital development team is responsible for the tools and services in this ecosystem including CMS and supporting tools such as workflow and analytics.
You will work within a high-performing, cross-functional agile team to deliver a comprehensive roadmap of product features and services.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Designing and developing features on the roadmap, applying modern engineering practices to your designs and implementations
- Being a key contributor to technical scoping and estimation of new work
- Seeking ways to improve the team’s processes, ensuring best practices are shared across the wider technology department
- Providing support for and proactively preventing, addressing and resolving production issues if they arise.
- Helping to define, roll out and evolve our testing strategy
- Keeping up with the latest technology innovations in media, cloud and software engineering
- Being an active member of the Chelsea Magazines Digital development team, contributing to the vibrant culture and promoting the CMC brand through public channels such as communities, blogs and meetups
Knowledge and Experience:
- Understanding of web application technologies, modern browsers and web application development practices
- Experience of implementing high performance, clean code, meeting strict coding standards
- Confidence with Javascript (latest ECMAScript specification), Typescript, Node.js and its associated frameworks
- Web languages: HTML5/CSS3, pre-processors SCSS, Styled-Components
- Understanding of measuring and monitoring Web Performance (Lighthouse, Browser Dev Tools)
