Channel 4 Behaviours
At Channel 4, we have four core behaviours that underpin everything we do. These are outlined below, and we will be assessing candidates on these behaviours throughout the recruitment process.
Include - We’re Altogether Different so let’s give each other a bear hug, team up and trust each other to collaborate arm-in-arm. Don’t just listen: listen to understand.
Innovate - Don’t just rinse and repeat: don’t just go through the motions. Challenge positive and embrace change. Experiment & take smart risks.
Grow - Question Everything and school yourself. Be generous with your knowledge with others and seek feedback from them. Be clear with your objectives.
Get it done - Make your time at Channel 4 count. Be a solution-finder, not a finger-pointer. Prioritise, decide and then act – always commercially.
Department Description
Channel 4 Sales is the financial engine-room of Channel 4. This team of over 250 people secure investment from advertisers which then funds almost everything else our business does. That pre-roll ad for a supermarket on channel 4 streaming has [in part] funded British film-makers through Film4 and that brand which sponsors comedy on 4 has [in part] funded Channel 4 News’ award-winning journalism.
Channel 4 Sales secures revenue from advertisers by offering a suite of advertising products to purchase across our entire TV and Digital portfolio – and some of the portfolios of UKTV and Warner Bros. Discovery, whom we represent in the advertising market. Most of our team (including this role) are based in our London HQ, with further smaller teams in Manchester and Leeds. This role sits at the heart of Channel 4 Sales, as part of a small Commercial Marketing team. It’s our job to make Channel 4 famous [well, in advertising circles at least] and to make our products and services attractive to potential advertisers and media buying agencies.
We do this by working closely with almost every team in the department, understanding what it is that makes Channel 4 “special” and then finding all manner of ways to shout about that to our audience. For example, we run websites, send newsletters, create videos and publish research. We organise speaking opportunities, make branded giveaways and organise a substantial and diverse calendar of B2B events. But no matter the project, it all has to be to a high standard – and with a little “Channel 4” edge.
By joining this team, you’ll be in the thick of the action, supporting the rest of the Commercial team on collaborative projects and being asked to work proactively on initiatives of your own. Creative minds are welcomed, but a penchant for the logistical and administrative tasks that make marketing happen is also a must.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll support the Commercial Marketing Specialist in the creation, development and implementation of a wide selection of marketing materials. As a small team, you will also have a role in helping to deliver projects across the whole of the commercial team. Evidently, specific responsibilities will vary by project, but the successful candidate can expect to perform the following tasks;
- Support the Commercial Marketing Specialist in the delivery of social posts, website updates, promotional videos and online events.
- Managing external design support on the creation of all marketing assets including: video creation, Award entry papers, presentations/pitch documents
- Budget management responsibilities
- Ownership of specific Channel 4 Sales internal comms initiatives
- Marketing contact list management
- This is a marketing role, but you may also be expected to assist with occasional event delivery projects – as such the successful candidate will need to be able to work evenings on occasion and undertake trips within the UK as part of their role. In these circumstances, time in lieu will be offered and for ‘late-night’ or ‘away from home’ events, Channel 4 will pay for transportation or accommodation where appropriate.
Essential Experience & Skills
As part of the application process you’ll be asked to tell us how you meet the essential criteria listed below. When answering this question think about examples from your experience so far, this doesn’t need to be professional experience but could be academic, from volunteering or a part-time job.
We’ve provided some examples beside the first four criteria of experience that could demonstrate you have these skills. Please note you do not need to use these examples, they are just here for guidance and you should draw from your own personal experiences.

- Organisation skills and ability to prioritise tasks - e.g. Planning events whether personal or for professional purposes, as well as managing work life balance, for example working whilst doing coursework/exams.
