Job summary:

Recently named Charity of the Year by Just Giving Awards 2022, we’re committed to moving further, faster to accelerate change for everyone affected by a brain tumour. Brain tumours kill more children and adults under 40 in the UK than any other cancer. We know that a cure can’t wait.

We have an opportunity for someone with a passion for fundraising events to support the Events team in delivering a range of high performing events. You will be one of the first points of contact for our event fundraisers, leading on a number of third party and bespoke events and providing support, materials and fundraising advice to all fundraisers. You’ll be valued for ensuring that high quality supporter relationship management is maintained at all times.

You’ll also play an important role, supporting on invoice processing, keeping our website content up to date, helping the team to guide our fundraisers through their journeys and helping to creating engaging content for our digital platforms (Facebook , Instagram and Twitter).

Our Events team support a wide range of fundraising and engagement events including our Family Days, our annual flagship fundraising event; The Twilight Walk, The Lewis Moody Foundation and a variety of challenge events. With events coming back in full force over the last 18 months, we’re excited to be developing our portfolio where we’ll blend the best of our tried-tested-and-much-loved events with a range of new and reimagined events.

You will operate at the centre of a hands on fundraising team and will be supported to develop your event planning and management skills and play a key role in helping us to improve our supporter journeys. We’re looking for a highly motivated individual with a can do attitude, who’s ready for a challenge, requiring you to juggle a myriad of priorities. You will also be required at times to support the wider Fundraising team.

Who we're looking for:

The successful candidate will be a talented and highly motivated individual, keen to use their organisational skills and great attention to detail to make a real difference. A conscientious and dedicated professional, you will be a strong communicator via all mediums, with the ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders. Ideally you will have previous experience in events, either as a volunteer or as an intern. Your friendly and engaging personality will ensure you deliver the best user experience for our fundraisers and maintain and grow relationships with them.

The Brain Tumour Charity is moving at a fast pace so we are looking for someone that has an enthusiasm and passion for our work and a conviction to deliver positive outcomes for those that are affected by this devastating disease.

Key accountabilities:

 

  • Work closely with the Events team to ensure supporters are directed to the most appropriate team to support them in their fundraising journey. This includes being the first point of contact for all event enquiries, building relationships with supporters, processing event registrations and responding to all enquiries in a timely manner
  • Ensure all enquiries are logged accurately on the database, assist with amendments and data cleaning as required and create reports for review
  • Lead on our third party partnership/subscriptions; Run for Charity, Threshold Sport, Skydives and Real Buzz. You’ll be stewarding fundraisers, sending out event materials and information, offering fundraising advice and liaising with third party providers
  • Develop existing relationships with supporters to further engage with The Charity
  • Work with the Young Adults Team to develop and deliver Young Adults events and activities
  • Ensuring event risk assessments are kept up to date across the portfolio and support the Events team to continually develop and improve these
  • Work as an integral support to the Events team in delivering The Twilight Walk and London Marathon campaigns, including overseeing the delivery of the Charity’s London Marathon Running Show stand
  • Support the Events team to deliver projects within agreed timeframes and on budget specifically related to number of participants, income and return on investment, and participate in regular review of activity
  • Keep abreast of trends within the sector, spotting new opportunities to develop the events portfolio
  • Leading on the Event team Instagram takeover of the main charity account where agreed with the Marketing and Communications team
  • Take the lead on developing automated journeys for The Charity’s individual event fundraisers and support in over stewardship content updates
  • Spot opportunities for collaboration across internal teams (Major Donor, Corporate Partnership) and handover appropriately to ensure sustained support
  • Attend numerous events throughout the year, representing The Charity and engaging with members of the public to raise awareness
  • Manage Charity event volunteers supporting at our events, in conjunction with other teams
  • Provide support on the Lewis Moody Foundation alongside The Brain Tumour Charity, where required

Experience:

  • Previous experience / knowledge of the charity sector
  • Proven experience of working with a range of people, remotely or face-to-face, ability to understand their needs and deliver service in an efficient and empathetic manner
  • Proven experience managing external service providers
  • An understanding of relational CRM databases

     

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    • Knowledge of virtual events and their potential within fundraising
    • Highly organised, confident self-starter and capable of taking initiative
    • Empathy with the aims, objectives and activities of The Brain Tumour Charity
    • Self-reliant and competent IT user including internet, email, databases, spreadsheets and MS Office
    • Ability to work well under pressure and in a rapidly changing, fast-paced environment
    • Ability to work flexibly and creatively and to respond to the emerging needs of the charity
    • Strong motivational skills, able to drive team performance across varied workloads and fluctuating activity levels
    • Great attention to detail

      Location: While contracted to our office in Fleet, Hampshire, our team supports a blend of office and home working provided you have adequate broadband and IT capability, with an average of 2-3 days in the office each week. 

      Working hours: This role is 37.5 hours per week, with some out of hours working. 

      Benchmarked salary: c.£25,000 (dependent on level)
