ADASS is a membership charity and a leading voice of adult social care. We are working to build support to reform adult social care, but we need to improve our communications and engagement to make that happen.

Our small but mighty communications team is looking for a Communications Assistant to support the growth and development of our vital work.

This role is a fantastic opportunity to strengthen your expertise and gain a broad range of experience across external and internal communications, social media, digital, campaigns, community engagement and events.

We need someone with brilliant communications and organisational skills who can prioritise a busy workload and be consistently proactive. Prior knowledge of adult social care, health, local government or the voluntary sector is not essential, but would be an advantage.

This is a hybrid role with some travel required to our London office (currently Westminster), meetings and ADASS events. We are flexible and open to several different contracting arrangements. This role is an 18-month appointment, with a view to extension.

Skills and Experience:

  • Experience working in a communications or media team, either in-house or at an agency
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to engage effectively with people from a range of different backgrounds, tailoring your style to their needs
  • Effective organisational and prioritisation skills, a demonstrably methodical approach to working in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience in using social media platforms (e.g. Twitter and LinkedIn) in a professional context and website content management systems
  • Strong IT skills, with experience in Microsoft Office and a working knowledge of MailChimp and website content management systems
  • Experience in updating contact databases, media lists and tracking coverage
  • Creativity and ideas for improving processes and content with a focus on solutions.
  • Openness to feedback and an appetite for enhancing skills and learning

Key responsibilities:

  • Work with colleagues to implement external communications and engagement strategies around key reports and events
  • With support, take ownership of our social media strategy to increase our reach and engagement, monitor and draft social media posts and responses for Linkedin and X, measuring and evaluate effectiveness
  • Upload new content for our website (currently being redesigned) and update existing content
  • Work with colleagues on internal communications, including coordinating a weekly enews bulletin for our members using Mailchimp
  • Help prepare key facts and information for external briefings on priority policy issues for use across a range of communications channels
  • Liaise with members to find and develop positive stories and case studies on adult social care across our membership and beyond
  • Manage day-to-day admin across our small communications and influencing team
  • Use our media database and monitoring system to send press releases, update media contacts, track and analyse coverage
  • Scan the external news agenda and social media and identify reactive media opportunities for comment
  • Support the Events Officer with additional administration capacity around our three top tier national events annually
  • Support the Engagement Officer on events such as communications training for councils and exciting parliamentary and campaign events
  • Support the Campaigns Officer to develop campaigns materials and stories/content

Hours

We envisage this as a full-time role, 35 hours a week, but we are open to a discussion about fewer hours and support flexible working (so we can discuss how the hours are worked with any successful candidate, subject to the needs of the business). ADASS has a positive approach to achieving a diverse workforce and welcomes applications from all sectors of the community.

How to apply

Please send a copy of your CV and a supporting statement (no more than 2 sides of A4) outlining how you meet the person specification by an email by 5 pm on Friday, May 31st, 2024. Any applications received after this time will not be considered.

We anticipate online interviews for shortlisted candidates will take place w/c Monday, June 10th, 2024.
