Reporting to the Commercial Manager this role sits within the Commercial function but operates within a multi-disciplined Integrated Project Team (IPT) and encompasses winning new business and ensuring successful delivery of contracts by applying commercial best practice and ensuring functional governance adherence.
The successful candidate will ideally have commercial experience in the Defence Sector, demonstrate the ability to work as part of a successful team and have experience working with customers within the domestic, US and worldwide markets.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to supporting a variety of bids and contracts for key programmes, products and customers.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Provide commercial and contract management guidance to the Integrated Project Teams (IPTs)
- Prepare and submit robust and comprehensive bid proposals
- Act as the customer's key point of contact on contractual matters
- Apply a high degree of understanding of the business Life Cycle Management and business processes with an ability to apply them independently to meet business objectives.
- Produce accurate and compliant pricing in support of proposals
- Manage commercial bid approvals in line with governance process and delegated authorities
- Be able to prepare, draft and negotiate Customer terms and conditions of contract and other non-standard agreements, seeking support from the legal department and IPT where appropriate.
- Work closely with Procurement to ensure flow down of key Customer Terms and Conditions
- Mentor and provide support to direct reports and less experienced team members
Successful candidate must have:
- Demonstrated experience of commercial/contracts ideally within the Defence sector although not essential
- Ability to work autonomously and as the acknowledged expert within the function.
- The expertise to be called upon as a commercial advisor for specific complex assignments
- High level of numeracy and proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
- Ability to constructively challenge and influence others to achieve the desired commercial position
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills that enable you to build a high level of customer intimacy in both internal and external customers and partners
- Degree or professional qualification such as IACCM, CIPS and/or significant domain experience.
- Demonstrated experience with Lifecycle Management and business processes
- Understanding of Export Control and Compliance including UK Export and ITAR.
- A familiarity with SAP (or equivalent ERP system) and its functionality
