Our client is a leading manufacturer of premium high end branded and private label products sold to consumers via wholesalers, specialist retailers and DIY groups across Europe. Having grown five-fold in the last four years due to organic growth and strategic acquisitions, the business is proud to be doing business with many of the well known retail chains across Spain, France, Germany, UK and Italy.
The client has gained an enviable reputation for providing a superior product compared to many of its competitors and so to continue its growth journey across Europe, the company needs to ensure its commercial strategy (including product development) is aligned with their largest customers. The retailers and DIY groups are often complex, with the procurement functions leading negotiations but with a large amount of influence coming from the other divisional leaders in country.
Generating a full understanding of the customer’s short to medium term strategy will be critical for the new Senior Key Account Manager to develop a sophisticated approach to these important customers. A key part of the role will also involve the effective management of the retailer’s expectations on specific projects, so the ability to build a strong rapport will need to be an important trait for the new Senior Key Account Manager.
The role will include implementing robust and commercial Key Account management processes which will help build relationships with the senior people within the major customers as well as identifying needs and promoting solutions. The individual will need to work closely together with all functions (sales, finance, logistics and product development) to deliver a great experience for the customer. as this will help ensure the company remains ‘relevant’ and the group’s strategy is aligned with the key customer at all levels.
To be successful in this role, you are likely to be a strong relationship builder who enjoys working with international retail clients. A strong negotiator at a senior level and someone who can head off a crisis will be particularly relevant. This role is likely to suit someone who is currently working for a large corporate who adopts strong Key Account management principles but who enjoys autonomy in their role and an entrepreneurial approach to doing business. For this position, the candidate could be based in the UK, France or the Netherlands and there is some flexibility on this.
