Job description

Executive Director of Corporate Services

Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA)

London/hybrid

  • Location London/hybrid
  • Sector Regulation & Professional Standards
  • Client Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA)
  • Job Type Permanent
  • Salary/Remuneration Competitive
  • Reference GSe98009.1
  • Closing Date Thursday 28th March 2024

RIBA is a world-renowned, global organisation that operates as a professional membership body and a registered charity. We seek to bring architecture alive for the public, both in the UK and across the globe, promoting education and training to enhance the built environment. Supporting over 58,000 members and others to deliver better buildings and places, stronger communities and a sustainable environment is critical to our charitable purpose, and our commitment to inclusivity, ethics, sustainability, and promotion of the highest professional standards underpins all that we do.

There has never been a more important or interesting time to join RIBA. Our world is changing at pace and the context in which we operate is increasingly complex. There are many challenges and opportunities ahead that will impact the profession and society in the coming years; the climate change emergency, technology innovation and regulatory reform to name a few. It is consequently imperative that our organisation is performant and appropriately structured and equipped to support the profession and society we serve.

As Executive Director of Corporate Services, you will play a key enabling role in the delivery of our Board’s vision and strategy, responsible for the leadership and continuous improvement of a range of support functions and disciplines including Finance, Human Resources, Governance & Legal Affairs, Technology, and Property (including Facilities). The role is consequently broad and will require a strategic, customer-centric leader who enjoys both the variety and reach that organisations like ours can offer and has the ability to manage and support any skills gaps in these areas.

The team you will inherit is performant, so your main day-to-day focus will be on the leadership and continuous improvement of Finance, and support of our high-profile House of Architecture Programme (HOAP), which will transform our London HQ, bring together our world-class collections and expand our digital reach and accessibility on a global scale. Consequently, this role could appeal to an experienced Chief Financial Officer who is looking to broaden their remit.

Currently performing a relevant role in a suitably complex operational setting, you will be accustomed to providing outstanding business support through the leadership of multiple disciplines. Financially qualified with experience of maximising business efficiency and managing risk, you will bring a modern leadership skill set to this role, able to form strategic partnerships and embrace new business models and ways of working to deliver optimum outcomes.

Regardless of experience, you must be an authentic, credible and a collaborative team player who not only shares our commitment to raising standards in architecture and the built environment, but also our values; our ability to establish and nurture a positive culture of inclusion and equity, both within RIBA and extending to our global membership, is central to our purpose.

These are both exciting and challenging times for RIBA as we pursue business improvement and transformation, and our work will continue at pace. If this sounds like the opportunity for you, we look forward to hearing from you.
