Job description

Job Introduction

Are you CCAB or AAT qualified, with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in Local Government finance? Are you looking to commence or further your career with Staffordshire County Council?

If so, you are encouraged to consider the role of External Reporting Manager, a key role within our dynamic and motivated Corporate Finance team, to assist with producing statutory accounts, grant claims and statutory submissions for the County Council.

Working closely with external partners and colleagues across the County Council, you will help the Corporate Finance team to ensure statutory returns are submitted on time and that financial resources are managed appropriately. Experience of analysing complex financial information and presenting the results to colleagues would be helpful, and the successful applicant will need to be conscientious with a good eye for detail.

You will have an office base in Stafford, and we currently operate hybrid working, so there is flexibility for you to work from home, subject to service requirements.

Main Responsibility

  • Assist with the year-end closedown and production of the statutory accounts and contribute to the smooth running of the annual audit process.
  • Lead on the monitoring of grants and submission of statutory returns to government departments for designated service areas.
  • Manage a small team, developing work plans and monitoring progress.
  • Contribute to the effectiveness of the overall aims and objectives of Corporate Finance

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is CCAB (preferably CIPFA) qualified or is an AAT Member, with relevant experience in a Local Government finance role.
  • Has a good eye for detail and the ability to analyse complex financial data, identify and challenge inconsistencies and present the results.
  • Has experience of statutory returns and grant claims, and knowledge of funding and regulation in the Local Government sector.
  • Is an excellent team player and can demonstrate an ability to work as part of a team effectively, including work planning, prioritising activities and performance monitoring.

For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Liz Hutchieson on 01785 276065.
