Financial Controller

A proactive Accountant is needed to join a busy growing business as the Financial Controller. You will be working in a highly visible position, supporting the Directors by delivering an effective finance function and provide financial insight to the business. This is a hands-on Financial Controller role with responsibility for a range of tasks including: Responsibility for financial operations, systems and controls including, sales and purchase ledgers, legal compliance to HMRC Supervising and developing a remote team of 2 staff, responsible for the purchase and sales ledgers. Completion and reporting of monthly management accounts including variance analysis and explanations as well as proposing potential actions to mitigate further variances. Responsible for forecasting and budgeting. Monitoring cashflow, reviewing and reporting, updating cash position and assessing working capital requirements. Managing the invoice discounting facility and liaising with the third-party factoring company. Multi-currency accounting - Sterling and Euro, bank reconciliations. Overseeing the credit control process, currently outsourced, and leading on bringing this function inhouse. Finance business partnering - playing a key role in knitting finance into the other business functions and helping operational staff have a better understanding of KPIs and financial drivers. Staff expense management and commission calculations. Inhouse payroll reporting to HMRC, VAT returns, Providing the external accountants with year end accounts information. Process improvement and implementation. Project work as needed, e.g. leading on the change of accounting software from Sage to Xero. Financial Controller - The Rewards: Salary: £45,000 - £55,000pa depending on experience and qualifications Benefits include: 25 days holiday bank holidays, pension, study support if relevant. Hours: Monday - Friday, 37.5hours Location: 4 days per week home based / 1 day per week in the Hove office Start Date: ASAP Financial Controller - The Person: You will be working in a supportive and engaging fast paced business so the successful candidate will have a proactive, friendly personality and enjoy being in a busy, varied role. A proactive accounting professional you'll enjoy being hands on and have recent experience of all aspects of running a finance function as well as management accounting, financial analysis and reporting. Whilst a proven track record in accounting is essential, ideally you will have a financial qualification to back up this experience, AAT qualified or CIMA / ACCA part-qualified. If you're studying, our client is happy to provide study support. Supervisory / management experience is needed as you will take responsibility for day-to-day leadership of the finance team. You'll be a first-rate communicator able to inspire, persuade and influence with the ability to positively manage and empower others to achieve. As a team player, you'll enjoy working in a collaborative manner with colleagues at all levels in the business. A natural problem-solver with excellent analytical skills, exceptional IT skills with experience of Excel, Sage and Xero is desirable.
