What’s in it for you?
The Financial Controller will provide operational management and oversight to the Octopus Investments (OI) Finance Team, while also actively participating as a member of the Financial Reporting and Control Leadership Team.
The role will suit an experienced candidate with a strong technical background and experience dealing with a large group of companies who relishes the prospect of delivering process improvements. Equally important will be the ability to provide support and guidance to a team of four accountants.
The team:
Reporting to the Deputy Finance Director, this role is an opportunity to lead a busy and diverse finance team, responsible for the financial reporting and control of the Octopus Group, including Octopus Investments.
You will also be part of a wider Finance function that is a diverse team of 60 that operates across various business areas and specialisms.
What will you be doing?
Managing a team of 4, overseeing their day-to-day activities and supporting them to deliver a strong performance against challenging objectives, and providing regular review and feedback.
Ownership of monthly reporting of profit and loss and balance sheet accounts of Octopus Group and its fund management group entities, as well as responsibility for all regulatory reporting (financial FCA and HMRC filings and submissions). In this role, you will maintain robust review and control procedures to ensure that all reporting is completed accurately and promptly.
Managing and developing the existing control environment, identifying key risks, and adapting to meet the evolving needs of the business. Continually review the risk and control environment to ensure that it is appropriate to the size and nature of the business.
Responsible for managing the statutory audits of the Octopus Capital group, including agreeing budgets and timelines, owning the relationship with external auditors and the tax compliance team, and ensuring receipt of a clean audit report.
Project management and support will play a key role in this position, with the opportunity to be involved in core finance-specific projects, as well as representing the finance team in cross-functional working.
Qualifications
Ideally, you’ll have:
✅ An accountancy qualification is essential (ACA/ACCA or equivalent)
✅ Experience with an investment or asset management firm, either in-house or via an accountancy firm.
✅ A good working knowledge of how funds work and operate
✅ Excellent interpersonal skills, with experience in confidently presenting and communicating financial information in a straightforward manner.
