An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and keen individual to join our Estates & Facilities finance team at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust as a Financial Management Accountant.
We are looking for an ambitious individual who can work independently and within a team, who is proactive and possess strong communication skills. Organisational skills along with sound financial and analytical expertise are key in this role to support the finance function in achieving the wider Trust vision and goals.
The successful candidate will be supporting the Operational Area budget holders and key Business Unit staff in promoting efficient and flexible management of resources. The individual is required to hold excellent accuracy and data manipulation skills to ensure the integrity of data is maintained in line with Trust’s reporting procedures.
Key responsibilitiesinclude, but are not limited to:
• Assisting with the timely production of monthly financial reports, performance/speciality packs and variance reconciliations.
• Ensuring significant monthly variances are investigated prior to report distribution, follow up any queries post budget holder meetings and complete month end reporting.
• Verifying the accuracy of coding to ensure that management information is correct
• Holding a robust understanding of service areas and providing a level of challenge and scrutiny by attending monthly budget holder meetings.
• Assisting in the annual budget setting process.

KEY RESULT AREAS
Provide financial advice and support to key Operational Area staff for the
efficient and flexible use of resources in compliance with the Standing
Financial Instructions, finance procedures and budget regulations.
Undertake robust monthly and year to date pay and non-pay variance
analysis and support with the input of monthly forecasts.
Undertake costing following an agreed methodology, ensuring that
appropriate working papers for all accruals and prepayments are maintained and impact of service changes and business cases are correctly transacted.
Support stock management arrangements within the Operational Area.
Verify the accuracy of coding to ensure that management information is
correct and to correct, at source, any inaccuracies.
Utilise and maintain ledger environments ensuring integrity of data, and
compliance with journal and reporting procedures.
To assist with the timely production of monthly financial reports,
performance/speciality packs and variance reconciliations.
To have robust understanding of service areas and to provide a level of
challenge and scrutiny by attending monthly budget holder meetings.
Ensure significant monthly variances are investigated prior to report
distribution, and follow up any queries post budget holder meetings and
month end reporting.
To assist in the annual budget setting process.
To plan own workload to ensure weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual
financial timetables are met.
The post holder will support the development, maintenance and review of financial procedures and policies. These procedures are co-ordinated in the Trust’s Finance Manual which the post holder will help to ensure is
understood and complied with across the Trust.
The post holder will support the development and review of financial systems to ensure that the Financial Management Department can provide comprehensive and effective service to the Trust.
The post holder will be expected to take part in, and in some instances lead on, a number of NHS modernisation initiatives.
The post holder will work within a rotational programme which may mean a change in responsibility periodically.
To participate in Trust committees and meetings as appropriate.
