We’ve always been at the forefront of reducing environmental impact, whether that is using bumblebees for production or taking care of every drop of water we use. At our nurseries in Norwich and Ely, we’ve become one of the first growers to use waste heat from water treatment plants and reservoirs, reducing carbon footprint by up to 60%. We now account for nearly 20% of tomatoes and 25% of cucumbers grown in the UK!

We have an exciting opportunity available to join our Ely team as a Greenhouse Team Leader. In this role you will oversee and manage the performance of a team of crop operatives completing the following tasks within one crop:

• Harvest
• Selection and pruning
• De-leafing
• Twisting & Lowering
• Logistics
• Hygiene actions
• Glasshouse cleaning per season cycle
• Re-planting crops for new season.

Main Responsibilities

• Supervise workers to complete their given task on a daily and weekly basis.

• Lead and motivate the team to deliver productivity targets, such as speed, through praise and recognition and ensure continuous communication with the Block Manager.

• Understand the technical challenges for the specific crops and any relevant quality issues.

• Understanding of crop specifications.

• Assist in setting the productivity targets and make suggestions where appropriate.

• Continually monitor workers technique for improvement to maximise productivity. Constructively provide feedback to operatives and demonstrate required techniques if necessary.

• Lead the team by example and with our values, maintaining standards and a good work ethic to deliver excellent outcomes.

• Monitor individual workers performance, including timekeeping reporting to operations and the block manager.

• Perform visual quality checks of crop work and harvested produce daily, and ensure operatives understand importance of quality of work.

• Ensure workers look after company property such as equipment and uniform.

• Ensure health, safety, hygiene and emergency protocols are always adhered to.

• Previous FMCG experience or experience working in a greenhouse as a crop worker or harvester
• Experience leading a team
• Ability to motivate and influence teams
• Strong communication skills
