Coppersmith Recruitment is currently seeking a skilled and experienced Harvesting/Grapple Saw Machine Operator on behalf of our client. Our client is a leading company in the forestry industry, dedicated to sustainable practices and excellence in operations.
Position Overview:
The Harvesting/Grapple Saw Machine Operator will be responsible for carrying out mechanized tree felling and harvesting works, including the use of a grapple saw, in various forestry operations such as clear fell, thinnings, and Duty of Care (DoC) works. The successful candidate will ensure that all tasks are completed to the highest standards, adhering to health, safety, and environmental standards.
Responsibilities:
Operate harvesting machines, including the grapple saw, to carry out tree felling and harvesting operations in line with site management plans and risk assessments.
Maintain a tidy and safe work environment, ensuring that sites are left in a satisfactory condition after operations.
Operate machinery at a good level of output, minimizing unnecessary idling or stoppage time.
Perform routine maintenance on the machine being operated and complete relevant maintenance forms.
Meet production output targets while adhering to health, safety, and environmental standards.
Communicate effectively with the forestry team and line manager to meet overall objectives and maintain good working relationships.
Report any issues, incidents, or close calls promptly to the appropriate personnel.
Take or receive materials on-site as required.
Attend meetings and undertake training as directed by management.
Adhere to company policies, procedures, and values, acting as an ambassador for the company.
Work in accordance with the company's Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion policy.
Undertake any other duties as reasonably required by the company.
Be receptive and adaptable to a changing environment within a growing company.
Requirements:
Essential:
Significant experience in large-scale mechanized harvesting operations, including operating a grapple saw or similar equipment.
Harvester FMOCS qualified/CPCS tracked/wheeled machines.
Excellent understanding and application of health, safety, and environmental practices.
Ability to read and interpret maps, including GPS/GIS.
Flexibility in approach to work and problem-solving skills.
Good level of physical fitness and mobility.
Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Willingness to work in inclement weather conditions.
Full UK driving license.
Desirable:
NPTC in chainsaw use (maintenance, cross-cutting, and felling up to 380mm).
Driving license category B+E (trailer towing).
