What the Hiring Manager Says
This is a key role at an exciting time in the evolution of the Risk function to support the Money Laundering Reporting Officer in a busy Financial Crime team which is part of a larger Risk team. The role will lead the Financial Crime Advisory team.
You will work alongside our Risk and Compliance colleagues across the Risk function so you will be a part of a wider Risk and Compliance community and have opportunities to learn about other areas of the Quilter business.

  • Lead, manage and oversee the second line of defence Financial Crime Advisory team, with responsibility for developing clear and appropriate processes, systems and controls within the team.
  • Support the MLRO in the development, implementation and maintenance of Quilter's approach to Financial Crime prevention, ensuring risk-based and proportionate frameworks, policies and controls are in place to deliver effective management of Financial Crime risks across Quilter in line with Quilter's risk appetite, and compliant with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Act as Deputy MRLO, deputising as required.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to the business, acting as subject matter expert on all Financial Crime matters.
  • Providing oversight of Financial Crime regulatory change identified through horizon scanning by the team, ensuring appropriate engagement with relevant stakeholders in order that any required changes to policies and procedures are undertaken and communicated affectively.
  • Support on Financial Crime projects as required to optimise implementation of regulatory change and other initiatives, providing advice and guidance to stakeholders, and providing appropriate challenge and an independent view of the risks being faced, together with mitigation.
  • Lead the creation and relevant delivery of Financial Crime training content on all applicable regulations and legislations to ensure the interests of Quilter and its clients are protected.
  • Establish and maintain Quilter's Financial Crime policies, annually reviewing the effectiveness of their operation and updating the policies in line with good practice and regulation.
  • Support the development of Financial Crime team enhancement and efficiencies, driving the use of technology and automation, to provide more data led insight and risk monitoring.
  • Input into the key messaging around Financial Crime risk profile and top risks for management information (MI), working collaboratively with other Risk teams towards the production of quality and insightful reporting. Contribute to the production of the annual MLRO report.
  • Support the MLRO in the annual planning process, playing a key role in the rules-based risk assessment and prioritisation process.
  • Represent the Financial Crime and wider Risk team at meetings, providing advice and challenge to the business.
  • Attend periodic industry forums on Financial Crime related topics, to enhance knowledge and expand network.
  • Promote the importance of robust Financial Crime controls, in order to meet legal and regulatory obligations.
  • Manage a team of Financial Crime Advisory professionals.
  • Use in-depth knowledge and experience to support colleagues, promoting a climate of continuous improvement and ensuring best practice is applied across the function.
  • Provide support and mentoring to other risk colleagues, sharing learnings and experience to assist with their professional development.
Risk Leadership
  • Supporting the One Quilter Group Risk Function" culture and approach, fostering positive relationships and providing consistent second line challenge and co-ordinating an effective second line function across the Group.
  • Identifies and nurtures talent to ensure appropriate succession planning within the team, creating an internal pipeline of high potential employees to ensure the delivery of the function's goals and continuity.
  • Uses in-depth knowledge and experience to support employees, promoting a culture of curiosity and continuous improvement and ensuring best practice is applied across the function.
  • This role will lead their team to provide an effective, pragmatic, commercially focused and valued service to the business, recognised for delivering high quality advice, guidance, assessment, challenge and insight. It drives improvements to the engagement, and engagement scores of the team, including by identifying and addressing issues.

You will have:
  • Proven experience within a regulated financial services firm, preferably in a wealth management business.
  • Experience of managing, motivating, developing and leading employees in a Financial Crime prevention function.
  • Extensive SME knowledge of and the ability to interpret Financial Crime legislation.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and oral), with strong stakeholder management & relationship building skills.
