Legal Services at Oxfordshire County Council provides key legal and corporate governance advice to all service areas of the council. There are four main legal teams: (1) Environment (2) Adult Social Care and Litigation (3) Children and Families and (4) Contracts and Conveyancing.
About the role
Our Head ofLaw and Legal Business Partner will build and lead a new, small team of specialist solicitors and managers across our Adult Social Care and Litigation team providing high quality legal advice and supporting council directorates and corporate services with proactive legal advice and collaborative working to meet our customer and community needs. You’ll support Council departments in delivering legal outcomes, understanding their key priorities and challenges and lead a legal team to provide proactive and collaborative solutions.
Other areas of work include:
- supporting the Director of Law and Governance and the Head of Legal Services in developing strong partnerships (internally and externally) to enhance the delivery of complex and pioneering legal and project work.
- supporting the continuing development of a ‘one legal’ culture within the Service and a ‘one Council’ culture within the Council, which is customer focused, performance driven and committed to continuous improvement.
- supporting the delivery of the department Service Plan and Improvement Plan. Support better ways of working and make recommendations for implementing wider improvements to policies, systems, practises and procedures.
- Qualified Solicitor/CILEX Lawyer/Barrister
- Significant ‘Subject’ experience working in a legal environment advising local government on complex specialist legal matters
