The role involves steering product innovation using sales data analysis, margin/profit analysis, range participation analysis, range mapping alongside the task of collating creative insight, trends forecasting and material technology/technical intelligence.

Description
- Identifying and developing relevant market/customer-led design initiatives that will support profitable growth
- Comprehensive Product Range Definition & Portfolio Management
- Creating useful and functional data for range mapping to further develop category road-map
- Reviewing the profitability of ranges and taking the appropriate decision to develop/retain/reduce/eliminate
- Leading & integrating closely on selection and decision making ensuring all business cases demonstrate clear profitability
- Develop & maintain effective relationships with strategic suppliers being mindful of future trends and opportunities
- Oversee and manage all stages of Product Development and innovation
- Drive the strategic direction of the product portfolio
- Ensure compliance with industry and company standards
- Work closely with other department heads to achieve company objectives
- Monitor market trends and competitor activity
- Manage budget and resources for Product Development activities
- Report directly to the company directors on Product Development progress
Profile
A successful Head of Product Development should have:
- A Commercial degree from a recognised business school
- Leadership experience in relevant Trading/ Product Development / Management role
- Excellent communication skills with good IT knowledge (MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Strong numerical and commercial acumen with negotiation experience
- Detailed knowledge of the U.K. market, suppliers, and Products
- Project Management with an ability to lead (and influence) large groups
- Results-oriented and driven, flexible in all aspects with a willingness to travel
- Extensive experience in Product Development within the industrial/manufacturing sector
- Knowledge of the retail sector and consumer trends
