As the Head of Strategic Business Development, you will drive business growth by identifying and developing new opportunities. You'll understand and address client challenges, articulating the value of our solutions and guiding clients through the sales process to make sure alignment with their needs. Collaboration with internal teams will be key to proactive client engagement, while your Defence sector experience will enable you to deliver exceptional value. You'll influence senior decision-makers with strategic insights and lead trend identification and strategic planning for our Defence organisation.
This role offers the flexibility to be based anywhere in the UK, with opportunities to travel for client site visits and SSCL offices as needed. You'll also get to participate in industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities, including exciting corporate events on weekends such as rugby matches, sailing trips, and polo games
What you'll be doing:
- Engage with senior members of our clients to understand their strategic vision, needs, and challenges.
- Identify and develop new business opportunities for SSCL's critical business support services.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key senior customers and decision-makers.
- Support in developing go-to-market propositions and sales opportunity plans.
- Collaborate with the sales team to build customised proposals and tender responses.
- Make sure smooth knowledge transfer and handover to the assigned sales lead within Partnerships and Growth when an opportunity progresses.
- Align pre-sales activities with overall growth objectives and targets.
What you'll bring:
- Significant recent experience in a senior frontline command role within the Ministry of Defence.

- Excellent presentation, communication, and negotiation skills.

- Strong project management skills and ability to balance multiple initiatives simultaneously.

Salary: £75,000 - £90,000 per annum
