Lead Health and Safety in Pioneering Nuclear Energy Projects
Join Holtec International, a global leader in nuclear, solar, geothermal, and fossil power generation, as we design the unconditionally safe and secure Holtec SMR300+ small modular reactor. As a member of Holtec Britain, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team of engineers dedicated to developing the next generation of nuclear power stations.

Role Introduction
We are seeking a talented and experienced Nuclear Health and Safety Manager with expertise in Construction Design and Management (CDM) to join our team in Bristol, UK. In this crucial role, you will ensure the safe and efficient design and construction of nuclear facilities, adhering to all relevant regulations and industry standards.

You will collaborate with engineers, project managers, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality health and safety assessments related to the SMR power station and support the development of the H&S section of the Safety Case for submission to the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) for use in the Generic Design Assessment (GDA). This role provides a unique opportunity to be part of an exciting emerging technology and energy marketplace.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee health and safety considerations for design and construction, ensuring compliance with the CDM regulations and the duties of the Principal Designer.
  • Develop and produce health and safety and fire safety policies, including Construction Design Management strategies.
  • Ensure design processes suitably identify health and safety risks.
  • Manage COSHH and DSEAR assessments.
  • Create conventional health and safety checklists.
  • Capture conventional design requirements.
  • Devise and assess mitigation measures for health and safety in design and construction.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, codes, and standards specific to nuclear installations.
  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments to identify and mitigate health and safety hazards in nuclear environments.
  • Provide expert guidance and support on health and safety matters to project teams.
  • Stay updated on emerging trends, best practices, and regulations in nuclear health and safety management.

Skills and Experience

  • Relevant experience working as a health and safety professional in a project context within a highly regulated, operational environment.
  • Operational knowledge of current HSE legislation associated with project work.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations, codes, and standards applicable to nuclear installations, including CDM Regulations.
  • Experience of developing and implementing health and safety policies and procedures and conducting risk assessments within safety-critical industries.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Conscientious with a focus on quality and safety.
  • Professional certifications such as NEBOSH General Certificate, NEBOSH Construction Certificate, or equivalent experience.
  • Membership in relevant professional bodies such as the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to learn quickly, maintain quality and efficiency, and apply acquired knowledge.
  • Confident in seeking support where required.
