Job description

HR Assistant (Public Sector) 

  • Salary: £12.00 per hour 
  • Location: Human Resources HQ, Hutton, Preston 
  • Job Type: Full-time, Temporary 

We are looking for a Pay Services Assistant to join our Human Resources team. The successful candidate will be responsible for processing all aspects of pay and associated processes, ensuring compliance with Police Regulations, Police Staff Conditions of Service, Force Policies, and Statutory legislation.

Day to Day of the role:

  • Administer absences including sickness, maternity, paternity, adoption leave, accurately calculating and maintaining contractual and statutory pay entitlements.
  • Handle administration of starters, leavers, and employee changes, ensuring accurate and timely updates on Oracle.
  • Provide accurate pay data to pensions for leavers, estimates, and repayments.
  • Deal with complex under and overpayments, raise invoices where appropriate, and comply with HMRC regulations.
  • Administer third-party payments and keep records up to date, such as Childcare Vouchers and Cycle to Work schemes.
  • Validate the monthly pay using checking controls and exemption reports, ensuring compliance with payroll deadlines.
  • Respond to internal and external enquiries and liaise with various stakeholders as required.
  • Ensure processes and payments comply with statutory legislation, contractual entitlements, and organisational policies.
  • Maintain and update Oracle to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Support the delivery of HR Performance Indicators and service level agreements.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience in an administrative/clerical role within a busy office environment.
  • Experience of HR and/or payroll systems and procedures is desirable.
  • CIPP/CIPD Level 3 Certificate is desirable.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with Oracle and other relevant systems.
