Job description

The British Academy – the UK’s national body for the humanities and social sciences - is seeking an International Programmes Officer to join our International team, providing key support in the delivery of the Academy’s learning and development opportunities for award holders. The Role As an International Programmes Officer at the British Academy, your primary role will be to bolster the Academy’s learning and development opportunities for international award holders, primarily the Researchers at Risk cohort. You will play a crucial part in the day-to-day work on the operational delivery of various training programmes including organising workshops and organising meetings to facilitate skills development. Your responsibilities will extend to supporting the recruitment of researchers for these training programmes, while also maintaining and enhancing operational practices and policies. This role is pivotal in working closely and liaising with researchers at various stages of their careers, ensuring their smooth integration and progress in the training programmes.  Success in this position is marked by your ability to establish strong relationships and make a significant, early positive impact within the Academy. You will be an effective communicator and dedicated team player, collaborating seamlessly with both external and internal stakeholders. Your self-directed nature, combined with a proactive approach to problem-solving, will be key in managing tasks such as planning, prioritisation, and demonstrating resilience in challenging situations. Attention to detail is paramount, especially in responsibilities like processing payments, taking minutes during meetings, and overseeing other essential operational activities. You will have the opportunity to help to contribute significantly to the development of new training and development opportunities for researchers. Your involvement will not only facilitate the career advancement of these researchers but also enhance the Academy's reputation as a leader in academic and professional development. This position is a unique chance to influence the future of research and development in the Academy and to leave a lasting impact on the academic community. About the Academy The British Academy is the UK’s national body for the humanities and social sciences, established by Royal Charter in 1902. We mobilise these disciplines to understand the world and shape a brighter future. Today’s complex challenges can only be resolved by deepening our insight into people, culture, and societies. With a Fellowship of around 1,400 leading national and international academics, the Academy invests in researchers and projects across the UK and overseas; engages the public with fresh thinking and debates; and brings together scholars, government, business, and civil society to influence policy. Terms and conditions The British Academy is based at 10-11, Carlton House Terrace, London SW1, a Grade 1 listed building. We offer a competitive benefits package including a 35-hour working week, with hours and location worked flexibly under our hybrid-working policy, 34 days’ annual leave plus Bank Holidays, a subsidised canteen, and an excellent occupational pension.
