Learning and Development Manager
Job Purpose
The Learning and Development Manager shapes how our teams learn and grow. The role leads the design and implementation of a Learning and Development plan which is aligned with our strategic priorities, encourages continuous learning, and gives everyone working at the RSC equitable access to development opportunities for their current and future roles.
Main Activities and Responsibilities
Learning and Development Plan
- Develop and oversee an organisational learning plan which is aligned to the RSC’s strategic priorities and values.
- Review and enhance the learning strategy for leaders and managers.
- Create and maintain frameworks for assessing skills within the organisation and identifying actions to target any skills gaps.
- Develop and manage a framework for ensuring compliance with mandatory learning activities.
Artist Development
- Support the design and delivery of skills development programmes for artists.
Design and Delivery
- Maintain and develop a range of effective Learning and Development activities, maximising appropriate use of technology and digital learning.
- Design, develop and deliver learning activity where appropriate, including e-learning.
- Identify, commission, and manage organisational relationships with external training partners.
Learning systems and data
- Manage and enhance the learning management system and learning hub, ensuring it is accessible and user-friendly.
- Analyse internal and external data to identify learning needs and opportunities.
- Provide data, reports, and analysis as required.
- Establish a framework for evaluating the impact of learning activities.
Communication
- Oversee internal communications relating to learning activity within the RSC workforce.
- Manage learning content on the intranet and training hub.
Equity, Diversity, Justice, and Inclusion
- Ensure that principles of equity and inclusion are at the heart of all our learning.
- Work closely with the EDJI Programme Manager and EDJI leadership group to ensure that EDJI learning is fully embedded within the organisational learning plan.
Administration and Finance
- Manage training budgets and forecasting, including working with the Apprenticeship Manager to ensure levy funds are maximised.
- Work with HR Administrators to ensure efficient administration of all learning activity across the organisation.
Collaboration and Engagement
- Work in close alignment with senior leaders across the organisation, ensuring advocacy and support for the RSC’s internal learning programmes.
- Collaborate closely with the Creative Learning and Engagement team to ensure that our internal learning activity is aligned to our external learning programmes (including our Apprenticeship and Early Careers programmes).
- Keep up to date with external best practice and appropriate networks in Learning and Development, representing and advocating for the RSC externally where appropriate.
Person Specification - Essential Experience
- Data-led analysis of organisational strategy and priorities to design an effective learning curriculum.
- Able to design, deliver, and commission a range of learning, including digital and online learning.
- Able to manage and develop and online learning management system.
- Experience of designing an effective learning evaluation framework.
- Confident knowledge and understanding of the creative arts sector.
- Budget management and financial planning.
- Experience of analysing and reporting on a range of data.
