Job description

Are you passionate about the potential for LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT to enable organisational success? Do you have significant experience of designing and developing learning curriculums? Is your practice evidence-based and data-led? Are you a dynamic communicator? Do you thrive on building productive working partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders?

We are looking for a Learning and Development Manager to enable our workforce to move into a new era of knowledge, skills, and innovation. In this pivotal role, you'll have the chance to shape the learning agenda for our workforce at the RSC, inspire a culture of continuous growth, and make a lasting impact on our people, our organisation, and ultimately the work that we create.

The role of the Learning and Development Manager will have a strong focus on access and inclusion and will create and manage a wide range of training AND DEVELOPMENT opportunities for a diverse workforce at the RSC, including freelancers.

As a learning organisation we are committed to the principles of life-long LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT and want to ensure that all colleagues at the RSC have the chance to build, as well as share, their skills and knowledge.

Some of the main activities and responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and oversee an organisational learning plan which is aligned to the RSC's strategic priorities and values.
  • Review and enhance the learning strategy for leaders and managers.
  • Create and maintain frameworks for assessing skills within the organisation and identifying actions to target any skills gaps.
  • Support the design and delivery of skills development programmes for artists.
  • Maintain and develop a range of effective LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT activities, maximising appropriate use of technology and digital learning.
  • Design, develop and deliver learning activity where appropriate, including e-learning.
  • Manage and enhance the learning management system and learning hub, ensuring it is accessible and user-friendly.
  • Ensure that principles of equity and inclusion are at the heart of all our learning.
  • Manage training budgets and forecasting, including working with the Apprenticeship Manager to ensure levy funds are maximised.
  • Work in close alignment with senior leaders across the organisation, ensuring advocacy and support for the RSC's internal learning programmes.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience of curriculum design and delivering training, ideally but not necessarily in an arts or charity organisation. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and inspire stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.

You will be a strong strategic thinker and problem-solver with the flexibility and adaptability to navigate change in a creative way.

This is a full-time, permanent position based in Stratford-upon-Avon, with some national travel required primarily to London. Some flexible and hybrid working options are possible, although it is essential that this role works closely with stakeholders and should therefore be visible and present across the organisation.

Access and Inclusion

We are committed to cultivating a diverse and inclusive workplace culture, and welcome and encourage applications from candidates of all backgrounds, identities and lived experiences.

We offer support and resources to aid access to the application and interview process, as well as the role itself, should you be successful. To discuss in further detail, please contact jobs@rsc.org.uk - we would be delighted to talk with you.

Application Process

All applications should be made online using the RSC website.

The role will close at midnight on 21 April 2024. The first round of interviews will take place online, week commencing 29 April, with the second round taking place in Stratford upon Avon, week commencing 6 May.

About the RSC

The RSC strives for excellence, and values integrity, inclusion, ambition, and innovation. We act with respect, show leadership, and build resilient ways of working in all our activities.

We can offer great benefits and aim to create a welcoming, supportive environment which is happy, healthy, and safe. We place great importance upon developing a diverse, highly motivated, and energised workforce to help achieve our priorities. We put our values at the heart of everything we do.
